Description
In August 1982, our late founder Tony Allen opened Oak Brewery on an industrial estate in Ellesmere Port. After much success, he moved nine years later to a location more central to his trading areas. Phoenix Brewery, Heywood!

Phoenix Brewery was registered in 1874, brewing directly from the Brewery tower and owning over 100 pubs in the local area. Phoenix’s history is still proudly displayed on our seven-story tower.

Building upon our strong foundations, we continue to brew Tony’s longstanding classic beers, whilst introducing innovative new brews. The team are looking forward to welcoming you to our Brewery site – soon to be open to the public for the first time in our history!

In 1996 it took the decision to trade as the name of the brewery Phoenix Brewery.

Cask, Crescent, Salford. Great name for an xmas ale. Dark bronze colour with a thin off white head. Fruity aroma with malt and booze notes. Flavour slightly prickly with some spicy burnt orange mingling with the caramel malt and some gentle hop. Pleasantly surprised by this one.

Cask at The New Oxford, Manchester. A light green beer with a lazing white head. The aroma has notes of vitamins - is this a very healthy beer? The falvor is sweet with notes of guerana and vitamins - a weird mixture. It has a slightly acidic edge. Is it water from the local river?

Medium beige creamy head. Dark brown body. Faint roasty caramelly aroma with milky notes. Dryish-sweetish roasty resiny wooden taste with earthy caramel and roasted almonds notes. Mild and smooth mouthfeel. Mid-bodied. Dry fruity roasty wooden aftertaste. Nice, but very ... mild. (0.25l cask, The Bow Bar, Edinburgh.)
