Description
In August 1982, our late founder Tony Allen opened Oak Brewery on an industrial estate in Ellesmere Port. After much success, he moved nine years later to a location more central to his trading areas. Phoenix Brewery, Heywood!

Phoenix Brewery was registered in 1874, brewing directly from the Brewery tower and owning over 100 pubs in the local area. Phoenix’s history is still proudly displayed on our seven-story tower.

Building upon our strong foundations, we continue to brew Tony’s longstanding classic beers, whilst introducing innovative new brews. The team are looking forward to welcoming you to our Brewery site – soon to be open to the public for the first time in our history!

In 1996 it took the decision to trade as the name of the brewery Phoenix Brewery.

Cask-conditioned at the Castle, Furnival Street, London 06/10/09. Dark brown with a decent tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, toffee and chocolate. Flavour had plenty more chocolate, some fruity sweetness and a roasty dry finish. Good.

Cask at the Pembury Tavern on 21st July 2009. Amber with short-lived off white head. Citric hops in main kick, otherwise on the sweet side. Quite a viscous, clingy texture with a feeling that the beer wanted to "glue" itself to the roof of the mouth.

(Draught at Sand Bar, Manchester, 23 July 2009) Pale yellow colour with brief, white head. Fruity, grassy nose with citrus, tropical fruit, hay and grassy hops. Fruity taste with notes of citrus, tropical fruit and a balanced bitterness in a finish with grassy hops. Tasty and fresh. Farily light body, rather dry. Being used to English lagers being rather tasteless, this was a positive surprise.

Draught @ The New Oxford, Manchester, England. @ [ RBESG 09 ]. Hazy strawberry red/pink color with floating seeds. Pleasant fresh strawberry aroma and flavor. Very sweet and you don’t feel the alcohol at all. A nice refreshing drink (maybe not beer though :P ).
