Description
Alter Ego Brewing Co is a 2.5bbl brewery based in Heanor, Derbyshire right next door to the beautiful Shipley Park.
We are guilty of brewing beers that we enjoy to drink, but do not fear as this covers a wide range of styles right through from cask beers to more daring styles in can.
You can find our beer in local pubs, nationwide bottle shops or from our online shop for local delivery or collection from our micropub ,The Tip Inn. If you want your local bottle shop to stock our beer point them to our website :)

Can from Eltham Wines. Black pour with a tan head. Nose is caramel, smoky malts, oak, chocolate. Taste is toffee, caramel, smoke, burnt toast, oak, marshmallow. Incredibly smooth. Smoky sweet mouthfeel. Boozy peaty finish. Absolutely cracking stuff, right up my Rue de la Yum.

Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a dark reddish-brown with mnimal cream head. The aroma is basically toffee. In the mouth it has a creamy texture with flavour starting out as lactose, toffee and vanilla. After a while dark fruits come to the fore as well, and there is some spiciness. Finish is quite fruity. This is nice, but the additives outweigh the stout characteristics, making it a bit of a gimmick.

Keg @ Tap and Can. Misty yellow, white head. Crisp, fresh, fruity with a Buxton-esque hop definition, and nice sharp bitter close. Very good.

Cask in The Boot Micropub, Wellington on 20th September 2022. Third of a pint on a flight of three. Dark brown, beige/creamy head. Nutty and chocolatey in both the aroma and taste, on the sweet side, but I don't mind that at all. As minuteman says, it's Nutella like in flavour and aroma.

Cask @ The Boot, Wellington. Pours dark brown, thin off-cream head. Aroma brings chocolate and hazelnut with a distinctly nutella-like character to taste, smooth and full-bodied. Lovely stuff.

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head. The aroma is milky with a sprinkling of chocolate. In the mouth it is very smooth and creamy. The initial flavour is nuts with some hints of liquorice, but this very quickly becomes swamped by milky chocolate. After a while the lactose starts to dominate and hazelnuts come back into the equation. Finish has chocolate and lactose again. This is very nice – and eminently swiggable. However, I have to admit it doesn’t have many stout characteristics.

25/8/2022. Cask at the 43rd Peterborough Beer Festival. Pours hazy pale golden orange with a small bubbly/frothy white head. Aroma of citrus, stone fruits, malt, orange, hint of pineapple. Medium sweetness, light bitterness, touch of tart. Moderate body, slightly oily, soft carbonation. Sweet fruity finish. Decent.
