It is as if every brewery in Belgium has jumped on the low-alcohol train lately, big and small, and this train is still picking up speed as it moves - so here is Dillewyns' contribution to the hype, Vicaris Nano, a 'dwarf Vicaris' if you will. Steinie bottle from a Delhaize supermarket. Thick and frothy, snow white, loosely cobweb-lacing, uneven-bubbled, stable head on a crystal clear pale yellow golden robe with disparate but active sparkling. Aroma of lemon zest, withering lemonbalm, flour, hay, plaster, wet gypsum, field flowers, plastic. Dryish, rather neutral onset, no fruitiness or residual sugars to be seen, perhaps a touch of green banana and hard pear, moderately carbonated with a slightly souring minerality to it; very light mouthfeel, on the watery side in fact, annoyingly grainy and remaining very dry, with a touch of white bread, working towards a decently hopped finish, with lemonbalm, chamomile and straw accents, softly but adequately bittering. A bothersome plastic-, plaster- and gypsum-like flavour sits underneath and lasts beyond those hops as the last impression - something I have encountered in many underachieving alcohol free beers. The hopping is relatively well done here, with a lingering bitterness 'filling' the finish a bit, but otherwise this is rather thin, bland and overly simplistic to my taste - many Belgian brewers have come up with alcohol free alternatives to their classic beers and the general quality is steadily improving, but this one fails to convince me. Feels and tastes like the umpteenth alcohol free pale lager in a very 'classic' (poor) way, trying to save the day with hops alone. No thanks.

Bottle at Bierhuys Woerden. Hazy gold colour lasting white head. Yes it's fine. Tastes stronger in abv than actual. Quite bitter on the finish. Yes some malt malt. A little golden syrup flavour. A little yeast ok blond. Over carbonated.
