Description
Mission Brewery was originally established in 1913, but like most breweries of the time, it went out of business during the first year of Prohibition. In 2007, Dan Selis, an avid homebrewer, re-established the brand and has built it into one of the top craft breweries in San Diego County.

The beer is a copper-orange color with a medium foamy off-white head that dissipates slowly to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrusy hops, malt and caramel. Medium body with flavors of piney hops, citrus and grainy malt, plus a bit of tropical fruit. The finish is hoppy with a grapefruit and caramel aftertaste. Above average overall.

On tap. Pours with a pitch black body and a lasting brown head that leaves good lace. Aromas of chocolate, alcohol, mocha, vanilla, kahlua, coffee, brownie and caramel. Decadent. Flavors are rich, alcohol, burnt rinds, a bit of smoke, rich coffee, boozy, caramel, chocolate, dark fruits. A bit too sweet. Medium to light carbonation, rich, boozy and full bodied.

Deep copper coloured body with a thinnish off-white head and some bubbles rising from the bottom. Aroma of fresh pine and pineapple hops, a lot of alcohol and sugars from fruits. Full-bodied; Deep pungent pine and pineapple flavoured hops with a lot of alcohol, a ton of sugars and a good malt balance - with the pungent hop notes very noticeable. Aftertaste shows a lot of alcohol and a full-bodied sweentess as well. Overall, a nice and pungent Imperial IPA with a lot of good hop notes and a very sweet balance that helps out. Plus, this sized bottle was perfect for the content. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York earlier in the day, sampled later on 18-November-2011 from New Paltz, New York.

the alcohol is a little too hot here, including some presence on the aroma. slight citrus smell on the end of the aroma. clear deep orange with white head that is full of small bubbles. palate is too tannic from the bitterness, and again the floral and citrus come through late. nice dry finish with sweet malt lingering late.

Pours gold with a small head. Fruity, sweet malts, a bit of grass, and some yeast in the aroma. Medium to thin body with light carbonation. Flavor has grass, light fruit, sweet malts. Kind of a mediocre Kolsch.

On tap at Barcade, Brooklyn, New York, NY. An amber/gold coloured pour with a small white head on top. Hoppy, caramel aroma. Tastes hoppy, caramel, sweet, bitter, slightly sticky in the American DIPA way. Barman said it was the best beer on tap that day so I checked it out. Really nice stuff, I guzzled 2 pints of it.

Hazy gold under a tall sticky mostly white head. Juicy malt and pine hop aroma. The flavor has lots of bitterness to it, more so than most IIPAs, this will be more like a regular IPA, hop wise.

A yellow kolsch with a thin white head. In aroma, a grainy malt with light bilous notes. In mouth, a boring sweet grainy malt with oily mouthfeel, a bit off. Botle from IGA Potsdam, 2$.

Crisp copper coloured body with a ridiculously thick tan head - way too much head and trillions of bubbles rising from the bottom - that part is nice. Aroma of medicine, hops, resin, a touch of malt and alcohol and more medicine and cleaning products. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence (no surprise with the head), Sharp herbal and piney hops with a very pungent, almost soapy finish. Aftertaste is quite potent with a lot of alcohol and medicinal flavours tasted near the end. Overall, a too herbal or medicinal hop note for me - a lot of nice characteristics, but something about the flavours just doesn’t vibe with me. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 24-July-2011 for US$6.55 sampled at home in Washington on 06-October-2011.
