Bottle. This IIPA was really boring and tierd. Where are the hops? This one tasted more like a diluted barley wine.

Bronze/amber pour with very small fine head.Very hoppy aroma with a fair whack of citrus, some woody notes and tropical fruit. Loads of cookie dough and noticeable toffee brings it back into English territory.Flavours are similarly malty, fairly sweet, but a prominent green, earthy hop note keeps it in check. A moderate, slightly harsh bitterness follows.Low creamy carbonation with medium body.Would have liked to see more carbonation, both for appearance and mouthfeel.

Mahogany pour with small creamy head.Aroma is pretty delightful, with caramel, toffee, toast, chocolate and some nutty notes.Similar flavours: Toasty, nutty, chocolate grain. Aftertaste is seriously toasty (literally, like "fresh outta the toaster" toast) with hints of roasted coffee. Again, pretty delightful, even if simple.Low carbonation works well with the style.Really enjoyed this one, not sure how much the macadamia nuts add, but Holgate are definitely on the right track with this.

Garnet pour with a small head that fades to a thin clinging layer.Intensely fruity, with passionfruit, oranges, pineapple and green apples. Some underlying toffee malt and woody honey.Flavour is dominated by rich caramel malt and followed by a long-lasting bittersweet finish. Some of the fruit transfers through. Also some green grassy hops in the background. Low on bitterness for the style.Thick and creamy mouthfeel, with spot-on light, prickly carbonation.

Great orange/amber colour, but almost no head whatsoever.Lots of toasty malt on the nose, almost roasted. Cocoa and cereal also present.Very thin flavour, with more incredibly short-lived sweet toasty malts, followed much later by a dull bitterness.Really watery. Not enough carbonation.Wasn’t very impressed, I’ve come to expect better from Holgate.

Ruby/copper, tiny head that ends up as a ring of tan bubbles.Aroma is pretty complex, lots of ginger, dried fruit, some tangerine, charred oak, brandy/cognac and of course some alcohol.Taste is similar, lots of ginger and oak, some creamy vanilla, then some lightly roasted malt. Woodyness keeps coming back for more. Sweetness is present from start to long after swallowing.Creamy carbonation with some warming alcohol on the palate.Quite a potent beer. Definately one to be slowly sipped after a meal on a cold day, preferably in front of a roaring fire.

Amber pour, lots of fine carbonation, persistent small creamy head.Moderate fruity hops aroma, mostly lemon and orange. Followed by a pleasing sweet caramel malt, cookie dough, and honey.Taste is definitely malt dominated, with more cookie dough, some bread, then finished with a gentle hoppy bitterness.Creamy texture, fair bit of carbonation, perhaps too much.

From bottle. This a very nice attempt at a dunkel. Suitably malty with dark red hue and meaty falvours and texture. I’m definitely goping back for more.

Bottled. An unclear orange-brown beer with an orange head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of over-ripe fruits, while the flavor is sweet malty with notes of both spices and over ripe fruits.

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of highlandlad. Comes as "Holgate Old Pale Ale". Hazy, amber golden with an off-white head. Unclean, caramellish nose. Medium body, unclean malty and somewhat caramellish notes. Rather hoppy finish, Very lively - a gusher. 180907
