Pale, as it is basically a very strong variation of Forester’s. Sweet, with a strong pale character, unfortunately lacking in nuance. A touch of alcohol comes in late.

Cape Town rating: Amber-brown with a bubbly cask-like head. The aroma has slightly smoky caramel. The palate is caramel, with a touch of smoke/toast and with a balanced finished that has a touch of dryness.

Knysna rating: Golden amber. Thin head. Fresh grainy aroma, toasty and appetizing. Caramel, toast, fairly earthy, complex..is this that Edinburgh yeast? Moreish. Better in Knysna, fresher and more complex.

Dark brown with a thin light brown head. Chocolatey, with a slightly fruity note, somewhere in between a dark mild and a stout. The body is full, but a harsh graininess undermines the sweet chocolate. Finish is a little bit husky.

Slightly hazy golden coloured body with a light copper glow and an off-white head. Aroma of wort, sugars, yeast, milk and a touch of hops - crazy smell, but smells like a lot of homebrew or brewpub beers. Medium-bodied; Fresh flavour with a good dose of malt, yeast, corn, sugars and a faint hint of milk or cream. Aftertaste shows some light hops, a decent amount of sugars, a touch of malt and some light citrus notes. Overall, a decent beer - showing a lot of the unfiltered and unpasteurised notes with some good flavours and nothing bad. I sampled this 1 full litre plastic bottle purchased earlier today at a liqour shop in Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape, South Africa, sampled the same day in my hotel room in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, South Africa on 29-December-2011.

Bottled, thanks jolo! Hazy pale golden, lively head. Sight fruity nose. Mid sweet, very light bodied with spritzy mouthfeel. Near watery with some yeast and dough, only slight grassy bitterness. Really drinkable, but also very shy. Castle Lager the craft beer edition?

(On tap) Slightly hazy golden with a creamy white head leaving some laces. Sweetish malt aroma. Light in body and a little low in carbonation. Again sweetish malt and perhaps hints of fruit and caramel. Fairly hoppy finish. 170508

Draught at the brewery in 2006. Nut brown, creamy head. Aroma of roasty malt and cinnamon. Dryish and gently malty with complex malt structure and notes of coffee. Pleasant salty finish.
