Cloudy deep amber with a medium beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel, plums and hints of yeast. Flavour was mild yeasty with ripe fruits, plums, roasted malt and caramel notes. Finished sweet.

Bottled. An unclear brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of fruit - over ripe, spices - cardemomme, malt, and a bit caramel. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of malt and spices - cardemomme and more, as well as medium notes of caramel, leading to a dry spicy and alcoholic finish. The alcohol tickles the tongue.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of bu11zeye. Pours brown with a slight haze and a small off-white head. Aroma of dried fruit and typical Quad yeast. Medium body, extremely fruity - dried fruit - lots of plums and figs here. Some yeast and phenols, a whiff of licorice and some warming alcohol in the finish. Elegant and sophisticated. 280110

22 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy dark orange to brown with a small white head. Aroma is vegetable and light malty. Sweet malty flavoured, light phenolic and dark caramelish. Lingering malty and light phenolic finish.

Now that I read the description here I see what the brewer was going for, unfortunately it just was not achieved in this version (maybe with later batches). It comes to me with a thick brown head, very soft and pillow-y, was actually surprised this came off the cask (and the cask was way too cold). This sits atop a thick looking black body. Aroma is lightly roasted with some acidity, its earthy and vegetal (in hindsight that must be the rosemary-smoked malt), Its dry smelling and has a faint peat-earth aroma. Flavor is light prune with more dry earth-soil. It finishes dry with faint ash. In general it is a very dry, earthy, and vegetal stout. The British yeast dominates (earth, soil) and I get nothing related to a typical Belgian yeast. This could be great with tweaks in the future, thus I will try future batches.
Cask at Swift Hibernian Lounge, served in a Delirium glass.

Pours black into an English pint. Mocha colored pancake head with excellent retention craters as it recedes. Sweet oat and smoke aromas. Smoky upfront and astringent turning to dark chocolate metallic malt and back to smoke in the lasting finish.

On tap at Swift. Pours pitch black with a firm, light brown head. Aroma heavy on the roasted malts, some coffee scents. Flavor is robust and smokey. Burnt malts prevail, while coffee and chocolate notes add some decent depth of character. Medium bodied and somewhat warming. Roasty on the finish, the smoke and burnt malts hang on the tongue for a while. Pretty darn tasty brew.

Draft at Rattle N Hum, NYC. Deep gold body with a fizzy, off-white head, slowly diminishing. Aroma of clove, citrusy fruit, lemon, hay and with a hint of funky yeast. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet, moderately bitter and lightly acidic. Dry, but not saison dry. Some plasticy notes in the finish. Mediium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.

Batch #2 Very dense & fine yellow head, leaving lacerings over reddish dark brown beer. Neutral nose, with spikes of wood, caramel and alcohol(s), parsley. Bitter/woody flaovur with caramel finish. Warming up, more alcoholic sweetness arises and the plums finally getting through. Bit biting MF, severe, dry. Well-bodied, slick. It is just a little too "poor" in flavour, to be really great.
