Bottled at PBF. near black, small brown head. Plenty of tropical fruits and coffee upfront. Mid sweet with full body and well rounded mouthfeel. Espresso, dark chocolate, passion fruit and mango fight for attention. Mud cake and caffeine bitterness along with brandyish heat finishes it. Really good!

33 cl bottle @ PBF VIII
Aroma is rather nice with coffee notes, some soy sauce and salty licorice. Flavour has soy sauce, salty licorice. Distant coffee notes in the finish. Also some slight pea soup tones. Just too salty.

Bottled@PBF VIII. Pitch black colour, small brown colour. Strong coffee and quite toasted notes. Flavour is coffee, some toasted notes and also quite brutal on the hopping too. Rather sweet due to the coffee and hopping.

Light haze on this gold beer. Little white head. Smooth palate with light fine carbonation. Light creamy malt. Big grapefruit pith with a touch of orange citrus. Finishes semi dry with an aggressive bitterness that lingers on and on. I really enjoyed the combination of the smooth palate with the very bitter sting in the tale.

Cask at Brew Wharf - Borough, London. Pours clear gold with a fine, foamy white head. Nose has some nice, doughy bread and Belgian yeast. Medium sweet flavor with rich and doughy bread, bananas, candi sugar, faint bitter hay. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet bredy malt finish, touches of yeast, some ripe banana and other fruits. Very tasty. Well balanced.

24th November 2012 Opaque black - brown beer, good dark tan head. Palate is smooth and airy, softish and slightly viscous. Rich dark malt cream, a little coffee. Tangy dark malts, dark fruits. More fruits - prune and raisin. Bare whisper of smoke. Nicely joined up fruity dark beer.

Some very slight caramelising here, which neither enhances or detracts from the beer, otherwise it tastes pretty much the same as it did 7 years ago. Very good duration!

I drank this at home on the same evening that I heard that Simon ’Haddonsman’ Johnson had passed away. 22.05.13 a very sad day indeed Thick in the mouth, black in colour with tan head. Aroma of liquorice, bitter in mouth with strong dark bitter chocolate and malty aftertaste. Liquorice again shows along with a goodly dose of coffee and demerara sugar. Nice bitterness and whilst this is indeed strong it is very smooth and very drinkable. Good beer. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 4.0

At the Brewpub. Clear amber beer, little off white head. Palate is smooth and fresh. Modest carbonation. The malt is smooth but not that sweet, carries a dark toffee streak. Whisper of red berry fruits. Strong bitterness without too much hop fruit. Just a trace of marmalade. Semi dry finish with a strong bitter linger.
