Associated Venue: Alaskan Brewing Company
Established in 1986
In 1986, 28-year-olds Marcy and Geoff Larson reignited that tradition when they opened the Alaskan Brewing Company, the 67th independent brewery in the country and the first brewery in Juneau since Prohibition. Alaskan beers reflect many of the same characteristics of beers that were brewed here during the gold rush era. From the historically based Alaskan Amber recipe to alder-smoked malts and Sitka spruce tips, Alaskan beers reflect Juneau’s local brewing history and innovation.

Bottle 2018 edition. Blackish with a small khaki head that has good retention. The aroma is old smoldering campfire. The taste is what you expect in a good smoked beer--lots of smoke set in a moderately bitter ale base Finishes long with lingering smoked meats. Overall: A winner.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nearly opaque black/dark brown color with a one finger tan head that has fair retention. The aroma is mild with blackened grains, figs and a bit of dark chocolate. The taste is bitter chocolate in the forefront followed by burnt grains and dark fruits. The palate is full and viscous with soft carbonation. Finishes medium in duration with lingering bitter chocolates. Overall: Decent--Will buy again.
