Description
In 1981, Peter Mauldon, the great grandson of Anna Maria decided to re-establish the family tradition and start a brewery in Sudbury once again. Peter had been too young to be involved in the original family business and had previously pursued a career with Messrs. Watney where he progressed to Head Brewer at the company’s large Mortlake Brewery.

Cask@GBBF2009. Black colour, not much head. Aroma is strong smoke, chocolate, some roasted malts as well as mild liuquorice and nutty notes. Flavour is roasted malts, smoke, some grass and mild notes of dark fruits.

Cask@GBBF 2009. Very dark brown color, not much head. Tobacco ash in the nose and some licorice. Cold coffee, some licorice in the flavor. Watery, but has some nice lingering roastyness in the aftertaste.

Cask@Market Porter, London. Ambery golden colour, small beige head. Aroma is wood, some hops, grass and fruits. Pleasant. Flavour is the same in a nice wooden and floral hoppy finish. Mild cheesy and herbal notes as well.

Cask@Market Porter, London. Amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is caramel malts, some hops, mild birch sap as well as some bittering wood. Flavour is bitter wood, some sweet malts, mildly bready notes as well as some slight floral hops.

Cask (handpump) @ The Tree Cherry, Huddersfield, England.Clear medium to dark orange color with a average to large, creamy to frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, light caramel, light to moderate hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, smoke - medicine - chlorine notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090716]

Cask at Ealing beer festival 2009. Black pour with a beige head. Aroma of chocolate, fruit and roasted coffee. Malty, burnt coffee, chocolate, smokey, nutty taste. A very drinkable stout that I always drink when I see.

Cask at the Queen’s Head, Chelmsford, Essex on 27th Aug 2008. Dark mild ale with a grassy and smoky aroma, taking the tastebud through a rounded blend of malt and hop to a dry, slightly smoky bitter finish. Very flavoursome indeed for a mild of such a low strength.

cask at stCloisters edinburgh...deep red brown ... creamy tan head ... light roast dark fruits ... little juicy ... some plums and grapes.

cask at Guilford arms edinburgh...amber ... thin off white head ... light resin hop nose ... light fruity malts ... light background hop ... little bitter.

Cask @ Guildford Arms. Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma and flavour of caramel malts and a very distinct cheddar cheese presence.
