Description
The brewery is the beating heart of the Craywinckelhof. It all started in 1893, when Germaan Van Obbergen, like many farmers at the time, started a small farm brewery. The brewery, however, was not granted a long life, during the First World War the German occupiers seized all the brewing material. In 2010, Louis Schrevens, now the 5th generation, decided to restore the brewery to its former glory.

15th Dec 2012 at The Essen Christmas Beer Festival. I wonder if I shared a bottle with any of the other raters, as it seems the only people to have rated it so far were at the same festival as me! Poured a dark reddy brown with a thin beige head. Sweet nose and taste: caramel to the fore with candid fruit notes as back-up. There is also a yeast feel to the whole brew: came across a little ’green’ and not quiet ready to drink, but I drank it anyway. A mild bitterness arrived towards the end of each sip and although it wasn’t one of the best beers I sampled that day I actually enjoyed it more than some others.

33cl bottle, thanks Pierre for the bottle.
