Description
The brewery is the beating heart of the Craywinckelhof. It all started in 1893, when Germaan Van Obbergen, like many farmers at the time, started a small farm brewery. The brewery, however, was not granted a long life, during the First World War the German occupiers seized all the brewing material. In 2010, Louis Schrevens, now the 5th generation, decided to restore the brewery to its former glory.

75 cl. bottle sample @ 18th Christmasbeer festival in Essen. Apparently whilst they are currently still contract brewing this is one of the 4 current beers of Lochristi brewery. It is their intend to soon start a 10 HL brewery of their own using an intended but never used Piedboeuf demobrewery. Originally they apparently wanted to start a whisky distillery but some family members were into beer & the base of both beverages is not that far apart so they decided to go for both. Pours dark brown reddish with a small white head. Smell is sweet mocha, typical Belgian profile, soy sauce, spices, branches, herbs & dark fruits. Taste is Belgian yeast & overripe dark fruits, mocha, hoppy blended with soy sauce, dark fruits, bitter herbs and some caramel. m/m body. Okay – I wish the best of luck to this new brewery.

Bottle sample @ 18de Kerstbierfestival, Essen 2012.

Small yellowish head over hazy dark amber beer. Grassy nose, herbal, and caramel malts. Sweet-caramelly, bready. Finish is herbal, but light. Spritzy, slightly syrupy-slick. OK, nothing more.

Very good, dense yellow head over orange-golden beer. Veggie nose, with a jumble of malts, totally unbalanced aromas. Sweet-metallic, bit sweaty, meaty, dry yeasty flavours. Thick texture - way too thick for a tripel. Strange "tripel". Even stranger from De Proef.

Small, lightly yellow-tinted head over fully hazy orange-golden beer. Green ferns, unripe strawberry, and some fruity, citrussy notes. Old cookies, grains and/or wheat; human sweat in the finish, or dry-fried bacon without the saltiness. Medium bodied, very slick, like wheatslickness, and ending quite dry. OK, but another rather unoriginal beer.
