9th Dec 2018. Hand-pulled pint at The Park, Wellington, Shropshire. Had this in bottle form years ago and wasn't impressed, so wasn't too sure about trying the cask version. Pleased to say this was a whole lot more interesting and better; still not very 'Christmassy' though. Rusty golden body, white crown on top. Aroma of malts and slight fruity esters, taste similar with a mild citrus leaning in the finish.

Dark copper color. Light toffee and milk chocolate malty nose. Soft mouth, slightly sour. Caramel, toffee sourness is a bit off putting. Lingering malty finish

Cask at The Anchor Bankside. Pours dark ruddy copper with a beige head. Light spicy aroma. Near medium body. Flavor is roasty malt. Very, very mild Xmas spice. More Winter ale than Xmas ale. Not dry; not too malty. Moderately bitter. Decent.

Cask in Ramsey, Isle of Man. Good cream on top and dark brown body. Soft aroma of caramel and biscuit. Flavour is soft molasses, toffee and bread. Medium sweet finish. Adequate but not interesting.

Pint on tap at The Laughing Fish, Isfield. Deep copper/red beer with thin white head. Zero carbonation. Lightly malty nose. Laces well. Light body, sweet taste at first becoming more bitter and herbal later. Tangy and drying right at the end. Slightly different to your usual bitter but perfectly drinkable.

7 3 7 3 14 Cask at the café in Southampton airport. Clear amber brown with an off white head. Aroma of malt, caramel and overripe dark fruits. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Light medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask (handpump) @Wig and Pen, Oxford. Clear amber brown colour, small but steady beige head, heavy lacing. Aroma roasted malts, caramel, rye, dark bread. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, toffee, dark bread. Sweetbitter aftertaste, light spicy and raisin notes, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, decent but not that special.
