Re-rate. :) Six month old bottle at home. Clear pale gold. Smells of dried apple slices, wood chippings, & an older lady’s soft rosey perfume. Tart, mildly acidy, & less winey then I remember. Grassy, green unripened fruit, flat mineral water, & bitter apple peel. Light hints of banana & grain sweetness on the finish. Mostly dry, but with a surprising wet & refreshing texture. Sorry this second look took so long.
Initial Rating 7/25/12 2.2: Sampled from their booth at the Union Square farmer’s market. My notes say this looked almost gray hiding underneath the tent from the strong sunlight. So a pale & dainty, non-descript appearance it is. Floral, honey nose. A bit diluted. Subtle apples. Very minerally/earthy. Goopy body. Disappointing acid. Bit of a snooze. I didn’t get much from this particular one, but I do enjoy still ciders. Stick with the free ice cider samples. :)

bottle Tampa xmas gathering pours a light hazy golden, thin fizzy white head. aroma and flavor, what really stuck to mind is how acerbic the mouthfeel was, nice dry finish with bitter apples, but I would have loved to a tad more sweetness in there.

I want to preface by saying that goldtwins and JoeMcPhee know nothing about good cider (for goodness sake they think everything tastes like dill). Special bottle provided by apoptosis and notalush (yeah I put the woman first, someone thank me for it) [Completely unrelated, I am having deja vu right now]. The cider does pour an ugly color (which is usual for a lot of cider), almost clear water but has a hue of yellow. Aroma is some booze, isopropanol, light apple sweetness, which is spiky. The alcohol however adds to the heft of the beer, which is uncommon in a lot of ciders. Taste is granny smith apples skins’, slight sour apple, grapes, and again heft from alcohol. Again the alcohol ends a heft (and in a way a legitimacy) to the cider which is rare among ciders. P.S. screw Larry and Joe.

750ml bottle purchased from the cidery’s booth in the Union Square farmers’ market - somewhat hazy, very light golden pour, with a small head fed by a continuous stream of bubbles traveling up the sides of the glass - light but pleasant barnyardy aroma (almost gueuze-ish), slight funkiness, with a soft background smell of over-ripe apples - light apple sweetness up front, followed by a crisp, almost spicy character that swells in the mouth - very subdued earthy qualities follow, leading into a long, dry, almost funky tart finish - crisp, light and refreshing, which is a bit dangerous considering the abv, but a quality cider none-the-less.
