Description
A farm brewery in Caledon, Ontario. Troy Baxter, Mike Nuttall and Grace Wilkinson make hoppy, hazy ales in small batches that sell out as fast as they can make them. We specialize in IPA, but we also have a deep affinity for farmhouse ales, crispy lagers and mixed fermentation sours.

We used to brew on a small, inefficient 100ish liter brew house in an old retrofitted calf barn. It was a lot of work, but it's all we could afford to get this thing started without investors. Now we mostly brew on a bigger, sort of more efficient brewery.

Since day one we have believed in the same fundamentals: quality and freshness above all else. Our mission is to get our beer to your mouth when it's at it's best!

Can: Poured a cloudy/hazy bright yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrusy and juicy tropical flavors is quite enticing. Taste is a nice mix of juicy citrusy and tropical hoppy undertones with some residual sugar notes. Body is full with limited filtration and good cabronation. Nice juicy hops showcase with great drinkability.

(473ml can from The Wheeled, Barrie ON) Pours opaque grey-gold with a thick white head and a little lace. Aroma of bright fresh-squeezed pink grapefruit and blood orange juice, aromatic white grape, mangosteen, guava, light dank. Flavour is lightly sweet and barely tart, fresh-squeezed blood orange and tangerine, white grape, peach, tropical florals like mangosteen, pineapple undertones, light doughy malt tones peeking through, slightly dusty yeast vibes, dry low bitterness finish of soft citrus and florals. Medium-bodied, very creamy, softly carbonated. In the head-to-head this was the superior of the two versions for me, much brighter in the nose and also juicier on the tongue. Not my absolute favourite Badlands hop bomb and I'm still figuring out what I think of Phantasm but it was tasty.

(473ml can from The Wheeled, Barrie ON) Pours opaque grey-gold with a thick white head and a little lace. Aroma of pink grapefruit, papaya, muted peach candy, mandarin, light white grape, some dankness. Flavour is a blend of slightly underripe floral creamy tropical fruit (guava, rose apple, cherimoya etc), grapefruit peel and pith, dusty yeast vibes, a bit of cannabis, white bread dough, lightly sweet but not very juicy, finish is quite dry with a tangy orange juice and white grape tartness to it that I think, basically no bitterness but a bit muted through the finish honestly. Medium-bodied, very creamy, softly carbonated. Solid enough but I thought it was a little less bright than both the thiolized version and the typical Badlands IPA.

(473ml can c/o Luc, thanks!) Pours opaque dull yellow with a thick white head and heavy lace. Aroma is lime, starfruit, gooseberry, tropical-tinged white wine, soft coconut, earthy dank cannabis, wet forest, bready malt. Flavour is mid-sweet at best, lots of lime and gooseberry, those green-skinned oranges juiced in SE Asia, quite some creamy coconut, smooth dank leafy vibes, herbal Sabro hits, soft citrus acidity, retiring white bread malt character, low bitterness plush coconut and herb finish with earthy hops and lingering grape. Light to medium bodied, a bit highly carbed for Badlands but still creamy. Superb hop trio, lovely concentration and balance. One of the best from them.

(473ml can c/o Luc, thanks!) Pours quite cloudy bright yellow-gold with a thick white head and heavy lace. Notes of brightly juicy white grape, tropical fruit, lightly tart (in perception) gooseberry, grapefruit zest, light dank green edge, softly sweet bread dough malt base, smooth through to a lightly bitter citrus inflected finish. Light body, oily to creamy and softly carbonated. Bright Nelson-driven tropical refresher. Nice one again.

(473ml can c/o Luc, thanks!) Pours cloudy pale gold with a thick white head and good lace. Aroma is passionfruit candy, fresh mango and peach, oranges, soft garlic, slight dank edge. Flavour is again passionfruit, tart powder candy, creamy notes that hit on vanilla or white choc, backbeats of lightly sweet orange juice, touches of garlicky greenness but not hot, light white bread dough malt base, soft citrusy finish with low bitterness and lingering powdery candy vibes. Light body, oily to creamy, average carb that's a bit high for Badlands. Nectaron is one of the most promising newer hops for me and it's rendered beautifully here.

(473ml can c/o Luc, thanks!) Pours very hazy dark gold with a thick white head and good lace. Aroma is a peppery leafy dank cocktail of leafy cannabis, fruity but slightly spicy tropical notes, creamy papaya/melon and bright gooseberry background, lemon-lime peels, touch of garlicy spice, bready malt. Flavour is leafy and dank cannabis with lime and grapefruit peels, softly juicy tropical fruit basket, citrus pulp, very lightly sweet malt, touch of melon, bready core, bone dry finish with nice minerality, lime/grapefruit and leaves, slightly garlicky but not too strong, low bitterness. Medium-bodied, oily to creamy, soft carbonation. Really on the dank side with that leafy profile you'd expect from NZ hops and Idaho. Nice drinkable DIPA.

A hazed golden DIPA with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet fruity biscuit malt with resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, tropical fruit, light mineral notes, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity biscuit malt with tropical fruits, resinous hops, light tropical fruits, very nice. Can from brewery.

(473ml can c/o Luc, thanks!) Pours very hazy medium yellow with a thick white head and heavy lace. Aroma is dank and leafy as expected from NZ hops, nice punch of sweetened lime and white grape up the middle, pale berries and some sweeter citrus, floral but not soapy or perfumed, soft bread. Flavour is lightly sweet at best with the bright fruitiness of this hop bill, lime, white grape, gooseberry and cannabis, leafy but not too 'green' and peppery, some lightly creamy floral tropical fruits, soft bready malt, dry and lightly bitter in the finish thanks to the leafy, lime peel-inflected tones coupled with an unusually crisp feel for Badlands. Light to medium-bodied, fairly creamy, a little lighter in heft than their typical IPA I felt. Lovely hop trio that very much hits my preferences.

(473ml can c/o Luc, thanks!) Pours quite hazy gold with a thick white head and good lace. Notes of white grapefruit, navel orange, semi-ripe and softly peppery pineapple fresh pine needles, some leaves, moderately spicy resin, smooth bready off-dry malt, finish is lightly bitter with a good peppery pine-inflected bite and touches of pineapple and grapefruit lingering as well. Medium-bodied, softly carbonated and quite creamy. Not my favourite Badlands ever as it's somewhat lacking in brightness and verve compared to most, but it's a solid old-school varietal IPA.
