Description
Cider done right. That means delicious West Country cider made from fresh apple juice, using the best locally-sourced apples. Founded in 2002, we are independent, family-owned and very proud to be based in the oldest working cider mill in the UK, breathing life back into the old building. Our home in the heart of Devon is the perfect micro-climate to grow cider apples and we are blessed with some of the finest bittersweet apple orchards in the world. We press and ferment whole juice from the finest locally sourced fruit, never from concentrate. No artificial flavours or aromas, simply the best natural ingredients, and then let it age to perfection. No shortcuts. The result? Delicious, beautifully balanced and naturally refreshing cider.

Bottle shared by Caesar at Eindhovens Herfstbierfestival. Ultra clear very pale golden color, no head. Aroma is sweetish, sweet apple, sweet pear and even a hint of overripe peach. Taste also has that soft sweet fruityness, a hint of vanilla and it also reminds me of whipped cream. Weird I know, but I like it. Smooth texture, soft carbonation. Pretty nice.

Bottle from Biernavigatie, 2011 vintage at 7% ABV, large sample, served in an Oersoep tulip glass. Clear light yellow color, practically no head. Aroma of soft wood, apple ofcourse, slight marzipan, quite fruity, almost white wine like. Soft marzipan like sweetness, soft wood, bit vanilla. Great stuff!

Draft at Pizzeria Paradiso - Dupont. Poured a clear yellow color with a small wispy head - disappeared by the time it hit the table. Aroma was light apple. Flavor was dry, with a touch of sweetness. Not much there other than a slight crisp apple character. Girlfriend called it "bland."

Bottle from Biernavigatie, no BB date, large sample, served in a tulip glass. Slight hazy pale yellow color, short frothy disappearing head. Aroma of sweet candy sweets, apple, citric acid, slight wood, hint of strawberry. Quite sweet in taste, soda pop. Sticky on the palate. I was hoping for a funky cider. But this is just soda pop. Way too much carbonation, way too sweet.

Cask at the Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford. Light to mid-gold. Very slight and very loose head. Interesting aroma comprised of candied apple, suet and stewed fruit. Taste has a sweet Pixy Stix edge, but settles into a sugary/savoury dichotomy of rhubarb. This is pretty cool.

On keg @ the Grosvenor as part of the Taylor Walker Cider Festival. This wasn’t in their guide booklet. Appearance - light golden with steady bubbles and no head. Nose - cinnamon, perhaps nutmeg too. Then sweet apples. Taste - apples intermingled with cinnamon and other sweet spices that are hard to pick out. Palate - light to medium bodied, fairly thin and with a long dry finish. Overall - unusual and not my usual cider style but still enjoyable.
