On tap as part of sampler at Asheville airport. Pours reddish brown. Taste is malty, of bready, some grass, some milk chocolate, a little amount of bitterness.

A deep dark stout with no head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, licorice, light vinous character, pleasant. In mouth, sweet chocolate malt with dark fruits, licorice, alcohol warmth, light acidity, still pleasant if a bit tired.

Draught at the Flying Saucer in Columbia CS, 2008. A bit smoky and burnt. Strong flavor of burnt sugar / caramel. Medium to strong hops, slightly strange, but decent.

Cask at the 2nd Annual Top of the Hops Charlottesville, VA beer festival, 9/10/11. Pours a pitch black color with a large frothy brown head. Decent head retention. Aroma of bourbon, coffee and earthy notes. The taste is bourbon, coffee, roasted malts and berries. Medium bodied. Nice.

A hazed golden ale with a thin creamy white head. In aroma, a mineral malt with grainy notes and fruity esters notes. In mouth, run of the mill wheat beer, wheat malt, fruity and grainy. On tap at Twin City Brewfest August 13 2011.

12 ounce bottle from Lowes Foods in Hickory, NC. Pours a clear golden color with a medium sized frothy offwhite head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of green, earthy and peppery hop notes with some pale malts. The taste is very much the same, though a little bit fainter on the malts. Thin-medium bodied. Decent beer.

22 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Opened 3/30/11. Pours a dark clear ruby color with a medium sized frothy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of toffee, berries and an earthy, almost peaty note. The taste is toffee, brown sugar, earthy notes and a bitter hop finish. Medium-full bodied. Nice beer.

12oz bottle pours clear deep gold with white head. The aroma is sweet sugary malts mixing with citrus hops and spicy hops. The flavor has crisp spicy hops supported by some tangelo and grapefruit citrus hops as well as mild levels of floral hops and sweet sugary maltiness. It gets mainly spicy hop bitterness and grapefruit into the finish with a pretty thin body to boot. Nice refreshing hoppy brew nonetheless. I like it.

12oz bottle. Opaque black, thin beige head. Fruit laced pungent chocolate aroma, suppose it’s the oats. Certainly an interesting Porter, dry bittersweet chocolate, somewhat oily. Medium bodied, very drinkable. Remains a Porter despite incorporating some Stout characteristics. A touch of coffee, smoke. Excellently balanced by some mild hops and bitter cocoa tones. Nice.
