Thin head on top and a clear yellow-gold body like a bad lager. Aroma is lemon flavoured cleaning detergent, but not quite - in fact perhaps more like your sister’s bathroom if she has been using lemon hair products, or lemon Pledge..... you get the idea. Flavour is perfumy hops with a lemon finish, and enough carbonation for it to evaporate on your tongue. Very light that way; and when taken in a certain light it wouldn’t be so bad, but most of the time, sadly, it would be.

Malts and caramel on the nose, both in small quantities. Boring amber colour, small head on top. Flavour is a tart nothingness with just a few minor malt hints. Dry finish. No flavour to speak of makes this beer very drinkable, and completely boring.

Soft aroma of sweetened malts. Excellent smooth head and golden body. Lots of honey and just a bit of malt. Okay mouthfeel. Very simple mix of flavours but very drinkable.

Aroma of fish, alcohol, grape skins. Pours with a beautiful brown-beige head and a ruby-black body. Extra points for the small baggy of roasted malts, which means this one gets a perfect score in the appearance department! Taste is a huge chocolate sunday rush with a coffee finish. Palate is a little too sweet for my liking, though. This is a very good stout, nonetheless.

Very faint malt aroma, even when warm. Extra points for the small baggy of roasted malts. Brownish body and a tiny bit of head on top. Taste is roasted malts, smooth drinking, but totally not complex. Dry and alcoholic finish. It’s well crafted, but uninteresting.

A golden blonde ale with a thin creamy off white head. Aroma of apple cider with tart green apples. In mouth, a clean apple cider with light malt. Boring. On tap at Octoberfest des Québécois as Boréale aux Pommes, Sept. 12 2010.

Living in Quebec, Boréale is the 12-pack I go to for an always-in-fridge beer and I always get their tester-pack. Dorée is one of four of their brews in the pack. I would have to say that it is my lease favorite one in the pack, but still a great beer nonetheless. Pours a clean golden-copper colour with a big creamy white head. This one is long lasting, even coating the brew as you drink it. Decent lacing is also present and nice slow carbonation of tiny bubbles. Sweet aromas of honey (one of the ingredients) and grain malt. The mouthfeel is smooth and the finish is semi-crisp. The honey is also in the taste and the grain in the aftertaste. Still, this is not too sweet, so a very well-balanced honey ale that refreshes.

Originally rated November 2004. This is the newest beer from this brewer in a long time. Not being a fan of Boréale, I kind of hesitated. But a fan of witbier I am. Poured a cloudy golden-white colour with a beautiful thick white head. There is a good amount of lacing. Aromas are herbal and fruity. The taste is of ginger mostly with hints of honey and citrus. This is definitely not Unibroue’s Blanche de Chambly, but I find it still amazing because of the spices. Heavily recommended.

Originally rated November 2005. Pours a pitch black colour with no sign of ruby highlights. The brown head is thick, creamy, foamy and fizzy with great retention. Smells hints of caramel, roasted malts and molasse. Bitterness throughout with a smooth finish. Then, bitterness comes around in the background. Smoky notes in there too, and not sweet at all, nor too dry. More on the coffee side, than on the chocolat side. Great generic stout with a smooth taste and a good alcohol content.
