A dark reddish amber ale with a thin white head. In aroma, light funky fruits with meat notes, metallic. In mouth, a rather sweet caramel and berries, vanilla, oily and cloying, a bit unbalanced. On tap at Fête Bieres et Saveurs, Sept. 4 2009.

Had this with an Italian meal at a sidewalk cafe in Montreal. Perfect beer for a hot, humid summer day and an accompaniment to my meal of linguini. Pours a nice light golden color with a medium-sized head. Flavor was very hoppy, malty with a bitter finish to it. I liked this so much I brought a 12 pack home with me!

Bottle courtesy of Sylvain Cloutier: Poured a deep cloudy brown color ale with a light foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of sweet malt with some distinctive notes of caramel and toffee. Taste is also a very balance mix between some caramel malt with some distinctive notes of caramel and toffee. No discernable hops which is no surprise considering the age of the bottle and not sure it would have provided anything more. Very well done and something they should brew on amore regular basis.

Bouteille 341ml. De couleur bourgogne et claire. Nez malté de caramel toffee aux notes rôties, moyennement fruité (raisins, léger de prunes et traces de dates) léger de chocolat, de noix et de houblon herbeux avec des petites notes de sucre brun et de réglisse noire. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture légère-moyenne crémeuse. Goût moyennement fruité (raisins aux petites notes vineuses, léger de prunes, notes de dates, traces de pommes) accompagné d’un léger goût de réglisse noire et de traces d’épices (muscade) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût moyennement amer de malt du genre caramel léger-moyen rôti (faibles sensation de brûlé), léger de chocolat noir et de sucre brun ainsi qu’avec des traces de pain grillé et de biscuits puis en finale vient également se joindre une amertume de houblon herbeux ainsi qu’un léger goût asséchant de noix et des traces d’épices (poivre). Post-goûr moyen-long et un peu sec, moyennement amer de rôti et de houblon herbeux, légèrement fruité (moût de raisins, pelures de prunes) et avec des notes de noix et de chocolat noir.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color ale with a nice foamy head with average retention and no lacing. Aroma of dry fruits with some notes of sweet toffee/caramel malt is very enticing. Taste is a nice mix between some dry fruits with note of toffee and caramel. Medium full body with a somewhat creamy texture and some average carbonation. Well done and something I am likely to buy again.

A dark reddish brown ale with a thick moka head. Pleasant aroma of licorice, ginger, dark fruits, and brown sugar. In mouth, sweet burned caramel with light cloves and licorice, toasted notes, light coffee, and raisins. Medium bodied. One of Boreal’s best. Bought at Jovi, Gatineau, Dec. 2007.
