Draught@Akkurat, Stockholm. Black colour, big creamy beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, coffee, some smoked wet wood as well as some mild notes of cherries. Flavour is quite much the same and also has some liquorice and tarry notes in addition. Cherries barely show in this brew.

On tap at Blue Point. Transparent, yellow body with very little white head. Aroma is big on the blueberry, sweet, a touch bready. Flavor is mostly pale malts, a little thin, with some berry sweetness on the end. Watery finish. Too gimmicky for me.

On tap at Blue Point. Transparent copper amber with a barely off white head that lasted and left some nice lacing. Well balanced aroma that’s both citrus fruits and pine but also caramel and cookie dough. Caramel sweetness is the first flavor, followed by plenty of bitter, citrus hops (grapefruit and lemons) with a dry, malty presence at the end that cuts the bitterness. Finish is dry with some lingering bitterness. Best item on tap.

(Cask) Almost black colur with very small tan coloured head. Aroma contained roastedness and liquorice. Medium bodied palate with very low carbonation. There were roastedness, liquorice, sourness, berries, ash and bitterness in taste. Aftertaste was mainly ashy. Good beer although the cherries were quite well hidden.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a clear golden body and a fading white head. Aroma of rye, caramel and an interesting fruity note. Taste is hoppy with some rye and alcohol. Fizzy and dry finish.

(Cask at George Keeley, NYC) Black. Small tan cloured head. Roastedness and chocolate in aroma. Full bodied and soft palate with little carbonation. Roastedness, ash, bitterness and chocolate in taste. Roasty and burnt aftertaste. I didn’t find the flaws the three earlier raters mentioned. Quite enjoyable.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear amber color with a one-finger head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is slightly nutty and grainy lighty toasty caramel with a faint stone fruit note. Taste is toasted malts, caramel, plum and other stone fruits and a faint nutty note. Finish of faint, muted hops. Medium bodied.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 16 Oct 2009) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, smoke and tar. Roasted, malty taste with some smoke, tar, chocolate, dark fruit and hints of cherries. Well balanced finish with moderate bitterness and a touch of sweetness. Full body. Overall more smoke and tar than cherries. Very nice beer.

Sampled on tap at Blue Point in Patchogue. Admittedly I tried this the 2nd weekend of October. Pours a clear gold with zero head. Great. Aroma is grassy with some hay and some sweetness. Flavor is a bit off, almost stale, sweet but flat. Finish is watery. Forgettable and bordering on hard to drink. This might have been great on June 1st, but on October 10th this was fatally flawed.
