Cask, at The Wharf, Aalborg. As Holden’s Black Special. A golden beer topped by a cask-style off-white head. Yeasty, citrusy nose with caramel malts and a touch of dms. Some catpee like hops aren’t disturbing the experience. The flavor has some caramel and yeast, with grassy, almost lime-like hops. Quite low on initial bitterness, but decent in the end. Some fruityness too in the finish. A very easy drinkable beer, but nothing impressive about it. 091025

Cask at The Wharf, Aalborg. It’s an almost clear beer, a bit pale golden and a little white head on top. Citrus, grass, some butter and pale malts, caramel and crackers in the aroma. The flavor is light buttery with biscuity malts, smooth citrusy and grassy hop profile. Some exotic fruits, but not much bitterness. Medium body, a bit too thin. Some bitterness in the finish. Overall, too buttery, else it’s a nice and quenching. 091025

Cask at Charlie’s Pub, Copenhagen
Mahogany color, dark but clean; no head. Aroma of meat, cheese, caramel, very light. Round mouthfeel, sweetish caramel, medium to low bitterness, a touch of medium roasted nuts and chocolate in the end. Balanced final, more malty. Drinkable (and I will drink it, because it’s called a Barley Wine), but not exciting.
