Description
Duncan Sambrook founded Sambrook’s Brewery in 2008 when there were just five breweries operating in London. With his vision of bringing brewing back into the heart of London, Duncan pulled ex-brewer David Welsh out of retirement and back into his dungarees and wellies. To

Since 2008 we have been brewing beer in Battersea, but after 12 years on our current site we have decided to relocate a mile up the road to Wandsworth Town. Later in 2020 we will be brewing beer on the site of the Ram Brewery where we will launch our new tap room and visitor centre.

A classical and powerful imperial stout with all the quality that you can expect. This one is syrupy, rather fruity with cherry notes, side of sweetness, roasted malt, chocolate, woody. A beer to drink step by step without any stress, 01.08.21, at Epalinges.

Looks good but lacks balance. Ample husky grains, strong grassy bitterness, dirty hay. Light sweetness. Pale grain. Heavy lingering bitterness. Prices really have crept up; this was £3.65 for a half.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading.] A dark chestnut pour with a rim of off white froth; smoky malt aroma, like a distant bonfire; smooth malty body, with a burnt grain bitterness and some black treacle; then a bittersweet finish with lingering nuts. Very drinkable, much better than the Shamrock.

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Mahogany coloured with a thin beige head and a light carbonation. Superb condition again - whoever's in charge of the cellar at this Spoon's deserves a bonus. Smokey up front (I like that!) then stewed plums and a touch of cough mixture (I like this less). Kind of a peaty thing going on here. Unfortunately the flavours die a little and it becomes a tad watery in the drying, mildly bitter finish that leaves a hint of smoked marmalade. Starts out well, ends just ok. An odd one this; on balance there were more positives than negatives though.
