Pours pale straw with a towering head.Nose shows doughy wheat, citrus, vegetal-like coriander and some out-of-place peppery phenols.Lots mor citrus as a flavour, almost floral. Not much of the wheat character transfers through. Very light and fruity.Carbonation is much too high in my opinion.

Pours a cloudy golden colour with almost no head. Has a lovely powerful aroma which is dominated by passionfruit and floral notes. Begins very sweet, with lots of orange and some honey, which is quickly followed by a reasonably assertive (at least by APA standards) and long grapefruit hop bitterness. A fantastic, distinctive pale ale.

Tap at brewery. Hazy yellow with a small white head. Light carbonation. Oranges, lemon, coriander aroma. Modest sweetness with balancing wheaty and lemon sourness. Crackling with coriander, some clove and white pepper too. Subdued but very refreshing. Bottle. Hazy yellow, large white head. High bead. Rather sour orange and lemon aroma with pungent coriander. Taste has a little sweetness and quite a lot of lemony sourness. Has that light lemon pudding mouthfeel that make Wits very light but just substantial enough. Vibrant coriander seed note with a lot less clove and white pepper. Impressive. Considerably more assertive than it was on tap - maybe I didn’t catch it at its best there. [3.3] This one seems rather inconsistent. Had a bottle recently that was insipid, and one at the brewery with a strange menthol-like note. Averaging score.

Tap. Murky dark amber with a coat of light beige head that disappears very quickly. Aroma of nectarines, caramel, kumquats, grapefruit, pine. Creamy mouthfeel. Hides its alcohol pretty well. Taste has candy sweetness before plenty of bitterness that’s mingled with earth, citrus, flowers, pine and a little windex. At first it just seemed like a wallop of bitterness but the mixture of hop flavours gradually came out. Lingering fruity bitter finish. Appearance aside, a very convincing local US-style hop riot. [3.3]Bottle. Cloudy dark amber with a large light beige head that lasts quite well. Aroma as before with some pepper too. Taste as before - hop aromatics struggle to emerge from the big almost icing sugary sweetness and very strong bitterness. This time felt quite heavy for the ABV. Good, but not really my sort of thing.

[4/11] Tap. Just hazy gold with a small white head. Aroma of kumquat and grapefruit, a little tropical fruit. Thin bodied. Not much malt flavour at all, a little sourness to go with assertive kumquat bitterness. Tasty and quaffable but a little crude. [3.1][4/12] Growler. Flavours seem better integrated this time and there’s no sourness. Pleasant enough, but really needs some presence from the malt side or punchier hops to stand out. [3.2] [3/14] Can. Hazy gold with a white head. Aroma of passionfruit, oranges, hay. Honeyed hay sweetness, oranges, passionfruit. Dry with a firm tenor-register bitter finish. Said to have been tweaked but seems hugely improved. [3.6] Has become the local beer I buy in 6 packs.

From the tap at the Local Taphouse, St Kilda on 27/1/2011 (part of a five beer tasting paddle). Light straw colour in the glass. Has an interesting aroma of bread, dough, spices, lemon, and wet paint. Flavour wise, you get lots of lemon/cirus, with a distinct and quite impressive sweet/sour balance. A very unusual and quite impressive brew, which will please those who like a bit of ’in your face’ bitterness.
