Schooner on tap at Lambton Park Hotel, Newcastle. Amber beer with a thin white head. High fine carbonation. Good lacing. Malty nose, tropical fruit. Good balancing bitterness at the end. Excellent quaffer.

Can. Almost clear pale amber with a fluffy inch of white head. Aroma of grapefruit, pineapple, gooseberries, crackers, a hint of biscuit, pine. On the lean side of things with ? Kiwi hops sliding out of the light biscuit as first fruit and then more resinous notes come through towards the dry and fairly bitter end. Good.

Can. Deep red, somewhat cloudy. A 2cm off white head. Aroma of sticky breadcrusts, cooked peaches, a lightening citrus note. Medium bodied. Sweet with caramel and stewed fruit with struggling bitterness that's slightly spicy. This sort of hoppy amber/ red thing is not often for me.

Can. Clear gold, an inch + of white head lats really well. Aroma of pineapple, grilled grapefruit - this would go well with a ham steak 40 years ago. Sweetish with citrus and pineapple, some resin at the moderately bitter but off dry finish. Get the feeling these Tar Barrel releases are just for pleasing the brewers and the locals - and me.

Can. Pale and somewhat cloudy orange with a cm of white head. Aroma of fresh cut pine, passionfruit, crackers. Soft texture. Fruity, grassy. Slightly astringent, only a little bitter. Refreshing, lacks a little depth for 6.5%. Food pairing: Nopales Manchurian.

Can. Very clear gold with a white head that fades to an inch. Aroma of crackery dough, flowers, some oranges, spices. Then it's both a little funkier and earthier than guessed with a bit of body before spices and decent bitterness.

Can. Opaque yellowish orange with a doming 2 cm white head. 3+ Aroma of grapefruit juice, citrus blossoms, light bread, some sherbet. 8- A bit more rind in the taste. Dryish with coconut and some bubblegum before a little resin and a finish that's a bit more bitter than I would have guessed. Pretty good, but again I'm a bit on fence about coconut aromatics in pale ales (this time from Talus, it seems).

Can. Opaque orange with a frothy white head. Aroma of nashi, guava, bread, oranges. Dryish with a slightly chalky mouthfeel. Fruit is mostly complemented by a building astringency. Fairly bitter at the end.
