Description
Ossett Brewery purchased the Fernandes Brewery and Pub in 2007. Proud of its heritage and under the watchful eye of head brewer Paul Spencer, Ossett Brewery has continued to brew many of the original beers, whilst also devising many new brews which have become firm favourites. Brewer, Steve Hutchinson, now brews around 90 different beers a year from the pale ‘Straw-Weight’ at 2.8% to impenetrable black, full bodied stouts, such as ‘Voodoo’ at 5.0%.

Cask at The Wellington, Birmingham. Clear golden with a bubbly off white head. Aroma of floral hops, fruity hops and citrus notes. Flavour is light sweet and light moderate bitter. Light bodied with very soft carbonation.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a crystal clear straw colour with a thin broken white head. The aroma is light citrus hop. The flavour is light bitter with a light watery, light fruit, light hop bitter palate. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Too light all around and with no defining flavours.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear straw colour with a whispy white head and some broken lace. The aroma is skunky malt, caramel toffee, light hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a light woody hop, light fruit light pepper spice palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

29th Oct 2016: cask half-pint in The Station Hotel, Oakengates. Very pale golden body, smooth white crown on top. Dry, hoppy and bitter with grapefruit and other citrus aromas and flavours dominating. Too citrusy for my palate.

Cask at cloisters... Golden amber.. Small white head... Soft sweet floral fruit nose.. Light dry custard bitter fruit.. Ling bitter finish

Gravity cask at the Land Rover Beer Festival 2016. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin off white head. The aroma is big floral hop. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter with a dry yeasty, nutty, roasty, aniseed floral hop bitter light spice palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask at the Wellington; clear very dark mahogany brown pour with a bubbly deep tan head, aroma has light roast and some dark fruits, taste has a hint of resinous pine, some liquorice, light roast, bitter chocolate.

Cask @ Fernandes Brewery Tap, Wakefield. Black with a creamy off-white head. Almost full with its roasted malt aroma and taste, but slightly floral too.

Cask @ Fernandes Brewery Tap, Wakefield. Clear golden with a creamy head. Has a hoppy character with an extremely mild fruitiness in its taste, which is not that noticeable given it’s quite stated in the former.

Cask @ Three Pigeons, Halifax. Blonde with a creamy head. Has a light berry-fruitiness in both aroma and taste.
