Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some nice lacing. Aroma of intense chocolate notes with light dry coffee notes is really nice. Taste of chocolate malt with some intense dry coffee and roasted malt notes veering in the astringency territory is quite intense. Body is full with nice creamy texture with good carbonation and light warming alcohol. Very enjoyable beer thought maybe a bit too much astringency for my tastebuds.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy brown color ale with a large off-white foamy head. Aroma of dry fruits and residual sugars offset by some funky yeast notes is quiet singular and interesting. Taste is also dominated by residual brown sugar notes with some dry fruits and candy ester offset by some Brett and funky yeast notes. Body is full enough for style with good carbonation and some light arming alcohol notes. Very interesting mix with good amount fo complexity while retaining some drinkability.
