Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Bottle: Poured a black color stout with a medium size dark brown foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with light cacao notes with dominant sour notes. Taste is also dominated by roasted malt with some sour and tart notes that are quite dominant and some light cacao notes also perceptible. Body is light with medium carbonation. Not a big fan of soured stout and this one is no exception as the sourness is really dominant.

A lightly hazed golden DIPA with a thin white head. In aroma, beautiful sweet fruity malt with loads of citrusy hops, light Brett, lemon pulp and floral hops, grapefruit, beautiful. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with smooth citrusy floral hops, light citrus pulp, kiwi, leechee, catty hops, pleasant and dry. Bottle at 2014 Ottawa Xmas gathering.

Tasting at Matt’s
Dark brown, almost black color. The aroma of mildly roasted malts is a bit oxidized, dusty, potatoes too come to mind. Dry mouthfeel, a bit too watery, with accent on roasted malt, some liquorice, very light chocolate, but overall the flavor is pretty boring.
