Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Black colour, poured with no head. Aroma of malt, old wood, caramel, bourbon. Full bodied, sweet, it combines chocolate flavour with fruit acidity, like figs and dry plums; warming alcohol. Excellent, rich.

Black colour with brown head. The aroma is dominated by cacao, chocolate powder. Full bodied, sweet, thick, syrupy; the flavour as well is led by dark cacao notes, with some coffee, bitter nuts (almonds), but also too much acidity, which is unexpected. It's so sludgy that I couldn't drink a couple ounces in the end, it's like curdled milk. It's good, bold, also excessive and rough.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a medium dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt with some floral coffee notes and some rye barrel notes. Taste is also a good mix of chocolate malt with some floral coffee notes and rye barrel notes with light residual sugar notes. Body is full for style with an oily texture and good carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. Well brewed rye BA aged coffee stout with good drinkability.

Chocolate, roast. Really strong smoky background that makes this fun. Pours black with good head and lacing. Finishes with booze. Some caramel there but predominantly bitter. Pretty nice. Tap at Snally.

Hazy golden with an orange hue, a warm whitish frothy-creamy head, good retention and clouds of foamy lacing. Big juicy nose with loads of fruits (oranges, nectarine, mango) with a touch of melon, lime. The mouthfeel is juicy and the drying finish is not too strong. The taste shows orange juice, some nectarine notes and a tad zest, melon in the end. A very nice, juicy, fruity, Hazy IPA with a little more stone fruits, than citrus.
