Bottle from the Hopduvel, Ghent. Dark cloudy brown colour with a decent off-white head that left plenty of lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, spice and chocolate. Flavour was sweet and fruity with more spices and a very smooth finish. Very easy drinking and highly enjoyable.

Bottle. Rich aroma of dark malts, dark fruits, and underlying cacao. Rich ripe apricot color, but the white head evaporated. Medium bodied with coarsely creamy carbonation. Flavor is medium dark malt, backed with chocolate, odd fruit, and some grassy hop. It sort of seizes the tongue. The finish is dry, and astringent towards the back of the tongue. Ends with a bit of cacao. It’s another great sipper from Belgium.

One year to expiry date in this bottle. A dark brown beer with a creamy, dense, beige and head. Aroma of raisins, some sweetness, dark fruits, spices, earthyness and some port wine. Aroma is slightly sweeter when the beer is warmer. Taste is slightly sweet, quite lots of hops, dark and dried fruits, spicyness. The aftertaste is long, smoothly spicy and almost dry. Full bodied, medium carbonation, surprisingly fresh to drink. Very tastefull Trappist, complex but still easy. Nicely balanced with dark fruits, sweetness and spices.

Bottle stored for 5 years. Near black and opaque, with a moderate tan head. Aroma of dark fruits. Very smooth to drink with more raisin flavours and a warming alcohol finish. Excellent.

Deep brown with a moderate, tan head. Aroma of plain chocolate with malt and preserved dark fruit. Flavour also suggested chocolate, but was marred by a suggestion of cornflour and a cloying, sweet finish. Good but not amazing.

11.2 fl oz bottle. There was quite a bit of gunk around the mouth of the bottle when I opened this one. Odd, since I had stored it standing up. Regardless, initial aroma and pour were pretty normal, so here we go. Pour is slightly hazy orange amber with a big fluffy off white head that settled down pretty quickly (some sediment present as well). Aroma is some wood and dark, over ripe fruit. Quite a bit of carbonation in the taste, with some nice caramel malt and hop bitterness in the finish. Not sure this one was 100% on, but it was nice nonetheless. There is a little bit of sharpness in the finish, not sure where this is coming from.
