Description
Temporal Artisan Ales is a brewing project that is crafting delicate oak-aged beers in a shared space at Luppolo Brewing Company in Vancouver, BC. The beers we create are fermented 100% in our oak barrels over lengthy periods of time, imparting delicate complexity. Portions of separate barrels are blended to enhance specific characteristics unique to each barrel. Every beer we release has been meticulously crafted from start to finish.

330mL bottle, pours a clear pale golden with a medium white head. Nose is very fragrant, bringing out lots of floral gin, botanicals, and a great saison yeast expression. Flavour is complex, with a very nice spicy yeast character, gin barrels, and floral notes. Fairly gentle flavour profile, finishing slightly above average in carbonation. Well-made.

330mL bottle. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Plenty of bourbon and cognac barrels on the nose, along with cocoa and vanilla. Flavour has a very burnt character up front and permeating throughout, bourbon and cognac barrels coming through, though not particularly boozy; burnt coffee and vanilla beans as well. Minimal carbonation. I like the charred barrel expression, but the base beer feels like its missing something.

Pale, slight haze. Big spruce character, on palate and aroma. But especially the palate. The base is solid, off-dry saison. The unsubtle adjunct is fine, maybe a bit much but that’s spruce for you. Again, off-dry finish and good body.

Pale slightly haze, a bit tart. It has a touch of foot-based funk. But light, not bad.

Solid. Some phenols. Decent blueberry, ok. Civilized but for the phenols.

330 ml bottle. Pours a dull amber with light head. Aromas of citrus, eatery white grapes, and sharp wheaty malts. Flavors of lemons, fruity tart grapes, a bit of farmyard and more sharp wheaty malts. Quite good, very refreshing and getting close to Tilquin Meerts IMHO.

Med brown, no head, big vanilla, woody aroma. On the palate, thick, quite low carbonation, oily, some alcohol and sticky amber sugars. Long finish, nice vanilla but surprisingly woody, tannic. I've been back for more, because quite frankly we don't get beer of this quality very often in Vancouver.

On tap at Threefold, pours jet black with a small beige head. Aroma is absolutely massive on the maple, with plenty of bourbon barrels, and a touch of fungal character. Flavour is hot, with a massive alcoholic bourbon character, quite an astringent bitterness, and big maple notes. Can’t say I detect the mushrooms on the flavour. Huge maple, booze, and bitterness on the finish. Quite rough; there’s definitely lots to like here, but it’s rather tough to drink.

On tap at Threefold, pours a hazy dark pinkish red with a small pink-tinged head. Aroma is full of rustic saison yeast, lots of tart fruit, and some Cheerios. Flavour is unfortunately quite Cheerios-dominant (pretty sure that’s THP), rustic saison yeast, and fermented out dragonfruit. The THP isn’t too bothersome but doesn’t seem optimal. There is a nice lightly tart fruit and wild yeast character underneath. Decent.

On tap at Threefold. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Tons of maple syrup, roasted malts, burnt sugars, and bourbon on the nose. Flavour has lots of burnt sugars, boozy bourbon, astringent finish. The malt profile is fairly thin despite the thick body and the burnt sugar character is quite bitter and unpleasant. Not particularly good .
