End of a long weekend of driving children around, dog walking and gardening. So the fire has been lit, the dogs are in front of it and this seemed to be rhe perfect beer for the situation. And it was! Great pour and good head. Perfect temperature from the garage and those malts shine through, with a perfect bitter balance of hops. Lots going on for a low abv. You forget how thirst quenching a good stout can be.

Copper with a firm thin head. A bit of toasted malt, caramel, slightly bitter and some ripe fruit. Medium bodied. Finish is lightly bitter and sweet. Solid.

Cask at Baxter's Court (JDW), Hackney before going on to see the superb Skating Polly at Oslo. Lightly hazed blonde colour with a white head. Nice fresh hop taste. Sweet lemon and apricots with some green leafiness set against a background of vanilla ice cream. Just enough bitterness to cut through. Decent; possibly the best I've had at this decidedly average fest.

Cask handpull at The County Hotel JDW Ashford. Slight haze gold colour lasting white head. Some Sheps yeast aroma. Decent in mouth .yes some decent hops. Just about the best pint of beer I've had from Sheps this year. Good hop sting on the finish. Really well made. Some stone fruit flavour touch of peach and apricot. Decent. Enjoyable.

[June 2023] One of the classics, but alas it does not hit the peaks for me. Clear chestnut brown with a frothy off-white head and a sweet malty nose, with hints of floral hops. Smooth and malty, sweet caramel coming through with floral bitterness finishing things off.

On cask at the SO. Appearance - golden and clear. Thin white head. Nose - orange and bready. Taste - blood orange and pink grapefruit. Brown bread. Grapefruit pith. Palate - light to medium bodied, pithy finish. Overall - nice.

Cask up the White Lady. Pours clear pale gold with a thin white head. Aromas of light tropical fruit and citrus. Taste is more of the same. Light bitter finish.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from the Co-Op near Cambridge Heath. Pours clear yellow-gold with a small, creamy white head. Light sweet flavour with notes of doughy biscuits, faint bitter straw, white bread. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Simple finish, mildly sweet, more doughy pale malts, low bitterness. Drinks fine.
