Description
The first record of the inn and brewery “Zum goldenen Engel” in Crailsheim from 1738 reads “annual production volume 150 buckets.” In 1877 George Fachs becomes the new owner of the brewery. The Fachs family still owns - now in the fifth generation - the brewery. In 1984 Engel becomes the first German brewery to bottle Radler. Since the turn of the millennium, Engel-Biermanufaktur has developed into a specialty brewery that regularly receives awards for its beers.

500ml bottle shared at ZBF 08. 7.2% abv. It’s a pretty standard lager. Decent strength, bit of heat from the alcohol. Niceish hops on the finish, ok malts.

Test vom 10.3.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,10,11,11,11,11 - 10,65

Schraubverschlußflasche: Golden, mid-sized lacing white head; sweet-sourish and grainy nose; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied; lemony traces in the sweet, slightly honeyish and malty finish, some rudimental hops in the aftertaste. Quite monotonous.......

(screw cap bottle, as Europameister-Bier 2008) Clear, golden colour with a medium-sized, slightly off-white foamy head. Sweet and a bit sugary cara-malty nose with a tinge of honey. Moderately sweet flavour, quite slim bodied according to its abv of 6.0%, slightly sharp carbonated mouthfeel. Pale malt character with light notes of cara-malt and honey. Medium-dry, malt-accented, slightly bitter finish. Nothing special, but deceptive brew with an alcohol well-hidden (06.03.08).

Test vom 5.3.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,11,10,10,9,11 - 10,40

Schraubverschlußflasche: Deep golden to very light amber coloured, mid-sized (off-)white head with a little lace; faint grainy aromas with a tinge of toasted malt; light to moderate sweet-bitter flavour, really light bodied for a beer of 5.5% ABV; slightly increasing bitterness towards the short, malty toasty finish. Quite bland and watery.......

Bottle. Fairly spicy caramel nose. Dark amber, creamy cappucino head. Strawberry, caramel, light on the hops. Medium to light body, somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Not too exiting.
