8 ounce at the Washington Street location - turbid dark brown - thin ring of lace - barrel treatment is rich in the nose - the flavor is earthy and traditionally British - surprisingly dry for the abv - notes of wood, earthy malt, whiskey, dark bread - it’s nice.

Aroma has notes of chocolate, cashew brittle, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, wood. Taste is bittersweet with beautiful barrel aged and roasty chocolate malt flavors.

Can from Tavour. Pours clear dark brown with a somewhat persistent creamy tan head. Aroma is a mix of nut and coffee. Med body. Malty but fairly dry. Moderately bitter - seemingly from coffee. Some vanilla notes. Decent brown.

375ml bottle, 2024 vintage. Caramel aroma with notes of brown sugar, spicy saison yeast, toffee, dark fruit and booze. Pours clear dark copper colored with a thin tan head that has little retention and thin ring of lacing. Starts with caramel, brown sugar and dark fruit flavors as well as having a rich, fully body and sticky sweet mouthfeel. Finishes smooth with spicy saison yeast and toffee flavors as well as a good amount of warming booze at the end. Not sure this is a saison anymore, more of a barley wine or quad but still with very little heat from the high abv. Very good.

6 ounce at the Washington Street location - inky black with a thick tan lace - nose is intensely smoky, with notes of chocolate, tobacco, and umami - flavor is much the same - fairly sweet, but with enough bitterness, toast, and umami to balance - a lot of smokiness - chocolate, espresso, dark fruit - finish had a bit too much fusel alcohol flavor and heat, which is unusual for this brewery, as they tend to make balanced high abv beers - aside from that, it’s great - maybe age will soften out the alcohol.

375ml bottle, 2016 vintage. Caramel malt aroma with notes of toffee, dark fruit, brown sugar, molasses and licorice. Pours deep toffee brown with a thin tan head that has little retention and very little lacing. Starts with caramel, molasses and licorice flavors as well as having a rich, full body and syrupy mouthfeel. Finishes impeccably smooth with toffee, dark fruit and brown sugar flavors. Excellent, but quite sweet.

375ml bottle. Pours a semi transparent roan brown with a small beige head that soon recedes to a fine ring around the glass. The aroma strikes me as having a very woody/oaken character with some Belgian yeasts and a bit of whiskey. The taste is similar to the nose, lots of oaken woody character with, whiskey, rock candy and some cola. The palate was medium with soft carbonation. Finishes long and semi0-sweet. Overall: Decent BA Dubbel.

Been neglecting my river north, deliciously reliable chocolatey dry vanilla.
