375ml bottle, 2017 vintage. Rich, roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate, licorice, molasses, vanilla, oak and bourbon. Pours inky black with a thin mocha brown head that has very little retention and lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt, chocolate, licorice and oak flavors as well as having a rich, full body and slick, viscous mouthfeel. Finishes impeccably smooth with molasses, vanilla and bourbon flavors. Excellent imperial stout, chewy and flavorful.

Aroma is nutty, wet river rock, toffee, dark bread, black pepper. Taste has a moderate roasted malt sweetness with some hop bitterness in the background. They really nailed the Englishness character.

375ml bottle picked up from the brewery and shared - clear dark ruby a starts with a slight lace that completely dissipates quickly - quite melllow and balanced for the strength (though very warming in the finish) - very British in expression, with earthy malts, treacle, caramelized sugars, dark fruit, brined cherry - finish is long and warming, with lingering dark fruit is bread pudding - they usually don’t do great with this style, but this is an exception.

4 ounce at the Washington Street location - dark purple, pours looking still - nose is fig, coconut, treacle, tamarind, port wine - feels flat in the mouth - strong fig and tamarind, and the back end tastes like tawny port - like, so much that if I went in blind I might mistake it for port, especially with it’s lack of carbonation - now, I like port, so I suppose that isn’t a problem - lots of plum sweetness on the back end, some dark chocolate and oak - very warming alcohol, but not boozy - quite a dessert sipper here - it’s growing on me - okay, I dig it.

375ml bottle, 2017 vintage. Caramel malt aroma with notes of dark fruit, toffee, spicy yeast, vanilla, bourbon and oak. Pours deep toffee brown colored with a thin tan head that has no retention and no lacing. Starts with caramel, spicy yeast, oak and toffee flavors as well as having rich, full body and smooth mouthfeel. Finishes smooth with dark fruit, vanilla and bourbon flavors as well as some warming booze at the end, but still well hidden. Excellent!

Bottle from the brewery - clear amber with an off-white lace - nose of raisin, cherry, caramelized sugars, dates - smooth texture, full body - flavor is bready and sweet, but not overly so, with a slightly warming finish - flavors of raisin, caramelized sugars, dates- lightly bitter finish - it’s solid.
