375ml bottle, 2017 vintage. Caramel malt aroma with notes of toffee, dark fruit, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla and oak. Pours deep toffee brown colored with a thin tan head that has no retention and no lacing. Starts with rich caramel, dark fruit, molasses and brown sugar flavors as well as having a rich, full body and silky smooth mouthfeel. Finishes quite smooth with toffee, bourbon, vanilla and oak flavors as well as warming booziness at the very end. Excellent!

Bottle (2017, release 6, 125 cases bottled, 10 months barrel aged) shared with Johnny. Opaque black color, medium sized fizzy brown colored head that diminshes quickly. Aroma is malts, roast, whisky. Flavor is similar: malts, roast, whisky, malt bitter, bitter with a slight tart note. Hmm not great, expected better.

2024 375mL bottle drunk 7/18/25.
Dark, undetermined clarity (probably clear). Well-retained, tan head.
Chocolate, cacao, cocoa, fairly rounded but nicely apparent whiskey. No hot alcohol though the strength of it is definitely sensed, and there is some lightly raw alcohol on the finish, with warming/breathing. Cookies, caramel, vanilla. Maybe not quite as much lead/pepper/acidity as I'd prefer, though I guess this isn't quite bourbon? Tons of cookie and chocolate lingering.
Heavy whiskey, but it's absolutely delicious, wow. Cookies, vanilla, oak, char, spice, acidity, caramel, raisin. The gang's all here! Thick but not quite syrupy body with reasonable attenuation. Not boozey. Guess that answers my question on why their dark beers are so damned popular on Tavour.

12 ounce can from Tavour. Number one with a bullet. Honey gold pour. Pillowy white head. Grainy malt aroma has lemony notes. Flavor is light and crisp. Bready malt, mild citrus. Herbal hops. Some sweetness in middle. Refreshing.

Bottle shared with Caesar @ Mancave Bunnik. Opaque brown color wirh a red hue, full sized bubbly off-white head. Aroma is hmm, infected? Sourish notes. Acidic? Hmm... Flavor however is not acidic, but it is a little thin-ish. And this is definitely not what it should be. Nonetheless the flavor is quite alright, boozy, raisins, bourbon. Gets better after a while.

Capped 275 from Tavour. Pours dark brown with a very slight and transient head. Aroma of dark fruits, dark bread, whiskey and more. Full bodied. Not at all dry. Malty with a good deal of whiskey. Flavor is pretty much the aroma with some wood notes. The dark fruit seems more fig than date. Good sipper.

375ml waxed bottle. I let this come to temp. Pours a clear garnet amber with a ring of beige head. Leggy. Nose is all quad, candy, malt, date, raisin, dig, whiskey, red wine lees. Big umami notes. Flavor had whiskey and some ketchup or Quince paste, candy sugar, huge dried dark fruits. Smooth. Booze is there but it drinks 10% and not 17%.

Capped 375 from Tavour. Pours dark brn/blk with a transient tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate, but seems to have a refried bean note. Full bodied. Not dry. Approaching sticky. Dark malt rather obscured by chocolate and something veg herbal tags along. Death it is.

Bottle - dark ruby, nearly black - nose is mostly chocolate, smelling a bit like fudge - flavors is similar - a lot of bittersweet chocolate - does not taste like a barleywine at all - one might be forgiven for mistaking this for a stout - the finish has just a hint of dark fruit and treacle that suggests there may be a barleywine hiding under all of this chocolate - maybe if the chocolate character was different I’d like it more, but there is a distinct Hersey’s syrup vibe throughout - meh.
