2002 bottle shared by hoppymeal at the 2010 Winter Solstice. Poured a clear deep amber brown with an off-white head that dissipated completely. Aroma was full of caramel with sweet grains, biscuit and seemed slightly oxidized. Flavor was similar with lots of sweet grains, caramel and a hint of toffee.

2004 Bottle thanks to CaptainCougar. My first Heavyweight ever. Pours with a deep brown body and a very faint and fleeting brown head. Coats the glass decently well. Aromas of dark fruits, dusty cocoa, oatmeal cookies, lead, earth and wood. Flavors of licorice, cocoa powder, leather, figs, spruce, chocolate, cola and raisins. Decently earthy as well. Holding up pretty well it would seem (I have nothing to compare it to). Medium carbonation. Milk chocolate finish. Mellow, but no obvious signs of age. A solid baltic porter!

Bottle at the Funky 6. Pours cloudy amber with an off-white head. Aroma holds citrus, spices, malts and some Belgian funk. Interesting flavor, lightly sweet with some tartness of funk and brett, some fruitiness. Medium in body with good carbonation. Finishes dry, quite musty, with some citric bitterness and understated malt sweetness. Good brew.

Bottle shared by Jimmack at Paul’s gathering. Pours black. Nose and taste of chocolate and fermented grapes. Slight vinegar from the age, but still very solid overall.

Bottle shared by Jimmack at Paul’s gathering. Pours light caramel color. Nose and taste of literally a slice of rye bread - pumpernickel, rye, bread and caraway seed. Very solid for its age.

12 ounce bottled shared by maniac at the 12th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering on 9/18/10. Pours a clear amber color with nearly no head. Aroma of toffee, raisins, daint leafy hops and light toasty notes. The taste is citrus and leafy hops with tart-cherry like notes. Medium-full bodied.

750 ml bottle, I believe courtesy of MrChopin - if so, thanks! Plenty of summer fruits in the aroma, and a slightly sour flavor with a good hop profile. Nice stuff.

Bottles, 2005 and 2006. Both poured thick and brown with strong, beige heads. Aroma of dark, roasted malts, coffee and bitter chocolate. Sweet flavor with lots of mocha, some tartness, and bits of smoke. Full bodied with soft, smooth carbonation. Finishes with lightly dry roast, chocolate sweetness and lingering smoke. The ’06 seemed a bit thinner and more tart, while the ’05 was more relaxed and attenuated. I give the ’05 a 4.3 and the ’06 a 3.9.
