Big thanks to madsburg for shipping me this ’06 vintage as a bonus beer! Yes! Pours clear amber with lasting light tan head. The aroma is sweet malts and caramel and then rolling into prunes, plums, smooth ripe cherries and raisins. The taste is much the same with plums, raisins and prunes followed by sweet malts and a modest level of caramel candy goodness. It ends a bit overly sweet. Yum.

Very piny sweet resin spruce and licorice taste. You notice the pine needles and juniper twigs. Some honey in the nose. Very unique. I love it, but it’s not for everyone. Rated 8/3/09

courtesy of ibrew2or3 2006 vintage, pours copper light, white head. Aroma and flavors, caramel, butterscotch, sweet dark sugar, grainy mouthfeel, roasted finish. Fund this one to be light on the palate. lots of malt goodness, especially this nice caramel, bready/buttery finish.

CBF 2009. Piratos: Lakrids - let saltet, chocolate. Black, light brown ring on top. Delicious licorice, chocolate, dry, hides strength initially, vineous afterwards. Creamy light sparkly mouthfeel. Chocolate retronasal. Quite a swansong...

Golden color. Piney and citrusy, but not alot of backbone and flavors came and went quickly. Bitterness was muted. Not bad.

500 ml bottle, 2006 vintage sampled@RBNAG 2009, Vatlandsvåg. This rating is compared with my notes for the 04, 05 and 06vintage sampled fresh. Clear mahogany body with a beige head that’s creamy on the fresh version but small and diminishing in the old version. Aroma of light burnt malt, some caramel and spicy – the old version has less burnt aroma and a light pleasant butterscotch impression together with Madeira. The flavor is mainly malt driven, with a hint of roasted caramel and spices. Balanced bitterness and a hint of warming alcohol, this becomes more like dry fruit and Madeira in the old version. This is a damn good Belgium inspired Christmas beer served fresh and becomes more Barley Wine’ish when matured. A totally different beer, I like them both but luckily I had many occasions to sample this and prefer a one year storage version.

Bottle marked as "Brockhouse Jule Ale" with a bb 131110 on the back. Pours with a tan head and a hazy brown body. Aroma of raisins, plums, chocolate truffle and berry jam. Taste is floral with coconut (oxidation?) and fruity notes. Light carbonation.
