Bouteille 341ml. De couleur ambrée-brune et claire. Nez de caramel butterscotch, de noix, moyen de chocolat, léger de houblon herbeux aux notes citriques et florales avec des notes fruitées (agrumes) et de biscuits. Moyenne-mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture moyennement crémeuse. Goût de grains de malt aux petites notes rôties accompagné d’un léger goût fruité (agrumes) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute rapidement un goût malté de caramel peu sucré et légèrement terreux avec un moyen goût de noix asséchant ainsi qu’un léger goût de chocolat noir. Parallèlement, l’on retrouve une moyenne amertume asséchante de houblon herbeux (herbes mouillées, léger de thé) qui s’installe progressivement jusqu’en finale et auquel un caractère légèrement floral se rajoute avec de faibles notes citriques. En finale, l’on retrouve également de faibles traces de café. Post-goût long-moyen et sec, moyennement amer de houblon herbeux et légèrement floral avec un moyen goût de noix, un léger goût de chocolat ainsi que des traces de rôti et de café.

341mL bottle back from 2005, courtesy of and split with manuchampions, pours black with a tan head. This bottle was past its prime, though it's obvious this once was a great beer, so my rating will compensate for that slightly. Aroma of iodine and wood - not pleasing, but you can tell what it once was. Flavour is a little more forgiving, revealing some dark chocolate somewhere underneath iodine and wood, and finishing with stale bitter notes. Would be interesting to have tried this upon release.

Originally rated February 2005. This bitter brown ale poured a deep copper colour with a creamy off-white head and good lacing and retention. Smells bitter alright ! Could also detect grainy malts with hints of floral scents. Tasted malty at first, but then the bitterness kicked in. Wow ! Long-lasting aftertaste. The IBU of this beer is 84. Quite the punishment.

Got this one in a stubby at the LCBO. I was quite pumped to try another one of Perry’s fine brews. Awwww... the beautiful coffee smell, with some butterscotch and traces of nuts. Pours a dark black colour with a beige head and consistent lacing all around the glass. Watery mouthfeel with a little stick to it. Good roasted malt taste with that little coffee flavour. Not too heavy though, which makes this a very easy drinking porter. Glad I could try this limited bottled brew.

Tried this one on tap at the Black Tomato in Ottawa. Poured a slight hazy amber colour with a nice head and very good lacing. The nose was of floral hops and sweet malts. Taste started off like a Creemore Spring (delicious - medium floral sweetness) and finished with a very, very bitter aftertaste. Full-bodied mouthfeel. This is the most bitter beer I have ever tasted... and that’s just great !

Celebrating my 500th review with Clash on the Chat... very early in the morning (back January 2006). Thanks to Perry, the owner of Scotch Irish Brewing, for these free tester ones. Pours a pitch black oil-like colour (and texture). The bubbly brown head has medium retention and the lacing is good. Aromas of coffee, dark bitter chocolate, roasted malt, mild candy and no sign of alcohol (great for a 9% ABV). Smooth silky mouthfeel, almost syrupy. The taste is bitter in the middle and comes back in the aftertaste. The beginning and finish is quite smooth. Good rich molasses and coffee with notes of licorice. The two other bottles he gave me are going to the cellar. Cheers Perry !

Was surprised to see this one at the LCBO, in a single stubbie. Glad to see more and more of Scotch Irish brews there. This one pours an almost black colour with very little red highlights. The head is nice and foam-creamy with a light brown colour to it. Retention is decent, but not much lacing come out of this one. A beautiful smell of coffee and roasted malt appears at first, but then, the scent turns into a rusty water one (I guess it is the hop sticking out). The mouthfeel is pretty flat (did not hear the normal sound as I popped the cap), but had a nice thickness to it. Very well hidden alcohol, with the taste of plums, chocolat, roasted malt, some candy... but very well-balanced, not too sweet, nor too bitter, but yet, still very tasty and drinkable. This one grew on me, as I drank it.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a hazy golden-brown body and a small white head. Aroma of cereal, grain, buttery, muesli, and buckwheat. Taste is bitter, grainy. Odd, bitter. Light bubbles.

A blonde golden ale with a thick off white head. A nice pleasant floral hops aroma with caramel and berries. In mouth, a nice biscuitty malt, British hops, quite nice and refreshing. Medium bodied. On tap at Cheshire Cat, May 29 2010.

Bottle consumed 1-30-10....Dark rich brown/black with a lt. brown sugar head....sweet rich malt...some caramel + chocolate...nice, but not too heavy....light burnt malts in the body...an easy to drink stout with nice aromas and typical characteristics for the style...some weak coffee additions as well...nice dotted lacing..its good me like....sweet sugar on the finish
