Tap: Poured a clear black beer with an almost non-visible head. Carbonation is quite low which doesn’t augur too well. Aroma is quite weak with a small touch of malt and hops coming out of my glass. Taste is better then expected when starting with subtle sweet taste and ending with a good bitter final. Overall, this is a good refreshing drink lacking some carbonation and probably the chocolate/nutty taste of regular dunkel.

Aroma shows liquorice, coffee. Body is a little flat. Flavour is smokey, with notes of brown malt and cookies. Slightly acidic, with coffee notes. Complex, and bang on to style (in the most traditional sense, which is quite rare and usually throws people off). FESTIVAL SPECIAL

OK, for the record...basically the beer was the wort for Sgt Major’s, fermented with an different yeast, and not dry-hopped. So it came out in something not dissimilar to Scottish ale. Light bronze. Chewy, with a good bitter backbone from those high cohumulone Chinooks. Toffeeish, with slightly leafy, tobaccoey notes. Not bad, but not especially cohesive.

Light bronze colour. Orangey-biscuity aomra. Slightly crisp, citrusy, with hints of husky pale malts. Refreshing and bitter, with dominant notes of Simcoe hops. In the English interpretation of the golden ale style, which is the best interpretation yet.

This beer poured a dark reddish colour with a small almost non-existant frothy head. First sniff had strong scents of metal. A little malt with urine too. First taste started out almost smokey. Slightly watery taste. The finish was bitter, strongly bittered. Almost like hair spray. The palate wasn't there at all with slight remaining hop flavour/bitterness. I've had much better.

Superb black beer with a milk chocolate aroma, creamy moka head. Tame chocolate in the mouth with nice hops to balance the whole. A bit thin for my taste but enjoyable...un gros merci a Perry! »(Dec. 2003) 8-4-7-3-14

Golden amber with a nice white head. Very nice hoppy nose with some sharp, resinous hops in mouth, which lathers the inside of the mouth like shaving cream on your face...Not as sweet as the Welly County...nice creamy body

Nice clear amber colour with a large dense white head. Slight hoppy aroma with some malt and subtle sweetness noticeable. Medium to light-bodied; Sharp astringent quality with a nice balance. Very subtle flavours lasting a long while dominate the palate. Great to try from, straight from the brewer! I had this bottle at the Winter Party at Oakes' place in Toronto, Canada on 05-December-2003. Many thanks go out to Perry-the brewer of this fine beer who provided a pitcher of this from the trunk of his car!

Black in colour-completely opaque with a nice brown head. Aroma of strong coffee, mild chocolate and a slight medicinal quality. Medium-bodied; Tart cherry taste with chocolate and coffee definately noticed. Aftertaste is very bittering and fairly nice! I had this bottle at the Winter Party at Oakes' place in Toronto, Canada on 05-December-2003. I owe a tremendous amount of thanks to Perry (the brewer) for brining out five gallons in a keg for all of us to share at the party!!

Brown/orangy in color. Nice hoppy nose (surprising for a lager), good balance between malt and hops (Saaz?). Heritage have atypically hoppy, resinous beers, which i wont complain as I am an inconditional of IPAs. However, if you did a blind tasting, I would never call that a Dunkel!!!For a local brewery, well done. 6-4-6-4-13
