2005 bottle, from HogTownHarry; nose of chocolate, vanilla, and a little smoke; opaque brown with red edges and a tiny tan head; flavor different than I expected from the nose, I expected more complexity; flavor was a lot of coffee and smoke, with a spicy finish. Decent but not great!

(Bottle 34,1 cl) Hazy, amber golden with a small, rough, off-white head. Aroma of caramel and citrusy aroma hops. Medium-bodied with some caramel and then a dry - but not overly refined - aroma hopping with some citrus. A bit boring. 290806

A pitch black beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel, chocolate, and malt, and the flavor is sweet malty with notes of chocolate and roasted malt.

(Bottle 34,1 cl) Completely black and opaque with a light brown head leaving laces. Aroma of bitter chocolate and hard roasted malt. Medium body with a light tartness and some sweetish bon-bon-like accents - like vitamin C lozenges?? Lightly bitter malt finish. Thanks to presario for this small gem. 020606

2005 bottle, rated 2008: Inky black with a little bit of head. Molasses nose - intense, with some charcoal, plummy depths. This can be nosed for a good long while. A lush creme brulee body with soft treacle and raisin, black sugar malts and toasted sesame seeds. The body has the richness of marrow. Alcohol and a light woody hoppiness dry this one out in the finish. This has aged wonderfully. Bottle at Beer Bistro. 9-4-8-4-17 = 4.2
Original rate: Pretty damn black. Rich dark chocolate and Yunnan coffee aroma. Chewy, chocolatey body with some dark malt, burnt fruits and a fair amount of hop bitterness. Quality, but unexceptional.

Bottle: Poured a light golden color beer with a small bubbly white head with very little retention. Aroma of sweet chemical based syrup is totally dominant and gross. Taste is also dominated by the cough-like syrup and leave place for little else. Body is very thin with little carbonation. The fact that even my wife though this beer was bad is ample proof that no one in the right mind would drink this more then once.

Bottle from blankboy. Ruddy orange body, medium-to-thin off-white head. Toasty aroma with bitter earthy hops notes. Rather light body with earthy, bitter piney hops and a light toasty, biscuity body. Bitter but light finish. No apparent alcohol. A decent IPA, but nothing out of the ordinary.

2005 vintage. Deep charcoal-brown body, medium ochre head. Big, roasty aroma with chocolate, molasses, a touch of smoke, and hints of dark fruit. Chocolatey, roasty body quickly followed by sweet, dark fruits (plum, raisin) and molasses, caramely too. For the first second or two, this really reminds me of Thirsty Dog Siberian Night Imperial Stout on tap. The finish is somewhat hollow, though, following the complex fruits and roast with a brief bitter punch followed by a slowly retreating tart, acidic but empty aftertaste. Still, a bit of work tweaking the finish and cutting the acidity could very well make this a masterpiece. Already very nice as is. Thanks Paul (blankboy) for the bottle!

Bottle: Poured a deep reddish color ale with a medium off-white head with minimal retention. Aroma of black currant chemically reproduced syrup. Taste is also dominated by this syrup with a weird mix of malt (rye?). Body is thin and carbonation is very low. A new low for this brewery?

Deep black stout with a thick moka brown head wonderful. Sweet chocolate in aroma with coffee and light floral hops. Nice dry bitter chocolate in mouth, classy and silky, with some metallic hops. Rich chocolate retained in mouth with licorice notes. Excellent stuff.
