12oz bottle. Black with some stained glass red edges when held to light. Smooth chocolaty aroma with just a hint of bitterness. Flavor-wise, I think this one hits the mark. Lots of smooth, roasty chocolate, with just enough mild cocoa bitterness to keep it refreshing. There are some Porter-like, qualities, maybe you could get away with calling it a Chocolate Porter. Knitpicky. I like this beer a lot, a great session Stout.

Pours clear amber with lasting tan head. The aroma is a mix of roasted to what seems like mildly burnt malts, some cherry and caramel sweetness as well as smooth smoky rauch malts. The taste is much the same with roasty malts and smoky rauch malts in full control of the flavor. In the background I get a supporting cast of cherry, plum and caramel sweetness. A pulse of cherry sweetness hits about midway and then fades as the smokiness takes this to the finish and deep into the after taste. I’m not sure it’s coming together for me that great. Still tasty stuff. Can that be right, 10.4% ABV. Tastes like 7%. Wow.

Tap @ OTH. pours copper, off white head, good white lacing. Aroma and taste, plenty of good pine and citrus hops. Not overly bitter with light caramel notes and some brown sugar. A tasty IPA.

Aroma: Floral, hoppy nose, a bit buttery
Appearance: Reddish burnt orange color, about 1/2- finger of white head that dissipates quickly, some minor lacing on the glass
Flavor: Early taste is a nice balance between sweet malts and floral hops, middle to late palate is more bitter, with a nice lasting bitter hoppy aftertaste
Palate: Medium body, a bit sticky
Overall Impression: It's got some typical IPA characteristics, but it's a little different. I like what they tried to do here, its a good effort, and an interesting take on the IPA.

Pours very dark with mocha head and spotty lacing. The aroma is burnt malts, earthiness, a touch of black licorice, hints of oxidation and molasses. The taste is smooth and neutral to start and then running into earthy oxidation, burnt malts and just noticeable nearly bitter dark chocolate. It gets dry and roasty with some astringency and mild amounts of bitter chocolate into the finish and after taste.

Bottle. Pours a fairly dark brown with a sudsy tan head. Aromas are a little bit chocolatey with a touch of spice and some malt roastiness. Flavor is kind of thin but a nice mix of dark and chocolate malt.

Bottle courtesy of Butters on 05/11/2009. Clear dark brown body with ruby highlights and a medium creamy tan head. Sweet toasty, caramel, bready, smoke and a bit of wood aroma. Sweet smokey flavor, some toasty, roasty and caramel notes, with some light fruit, molassas, and a bit of wood in the finish. Medium body with moderately low carbonation and a very smooth finish. I’m still not convinced this is actually 10.4%, it hides it awfully well.

Appearance: Dark brown color with a slight red hue, almost no head
Flavor: Almost all smoked coffee malts here
Palate: Medium body, kind of drinks like a cross between a dark lager and a porter
Overall Impression: I thought it was pretty solid, but man, there is a lot of coffee there...smoke/coffee is the domination here
