Cask at the Brewhouse, Sheffield. Light brown, pretty much clear with tight white head. Very little Roma: a bit of tea, cereal and biscuit, but it is very muted. Taste is basic bittersweet with a slight increase of bitterness in the finish. Almost comp,Ethel’s devoid of personality, but it’s a decent enough drink in its own way.

Clear red beer with a thin white head. Nutty in aroma and smell. It’s a touch sickly with fruit. Nice enough but not one I’d dash back to.

Burnley Beer Festival 2015. Copper coloured ale. Has a grainy-sweet character and tasty for it. Has some extremely light roasted malt notes.

Cask @ Fox & Goose, Hebden Bridge. Golden with a small head. Floral in its aroma, it’s similar in taste with an English fruitiness here too. Has a bitterness and quite a few hops.

500ml bottle from KellenTay Beer in Derby. Bare naked surface to a pitch black body. Dotted spots to the glassware. Roasted aroma with scents of dark chocolate. Mixed flavour of blackcurrant and dark malts. Medium to thin bodied. Just alright (shared with friends, hotel room 22.02.2015).

Black with thin head. Dry aroma with some roast malt. Flavour has plenty of roasted malts but also a sweet and fruity tang from the blackcurrant.

Keighley Beer Festival 2014. Very dark brown with a thin off-white head. There’s some fruit sweetness here but its lingering roasted malts are more than dominant in all its characteristics.
