Description
Monty’s Brewery is based just a short distance from the ancient castle town of Montgomery, on the Powys - Shropshire border. Monty’s Brewery was founded in 2008 by husband and wife team Russ and Pam Honeyman since then they have established the brewery as one of the leading breweries in Wales. Producing beers of many styles, with a focus on gluten free and low alcohol beers the brewery prides itself on its range having won many awards.
In this new world of sustainability and with a focus on the environment Monty’s is driving towards a more sustainable process. In the brewery we heat the water for each brew from the previous brew through plate heat exchangers, all helping to keep our carbon footprint down as much as we can. We don’t use any plastic in our packaging, and our waste grain, feeds local cattle, our first and last beer run-ins which would be a waste product are fed to a herd of Welsh Wagyu.

330ml bottle, thanks Mike for getting hold of this. Pitch black pour with a meagre amount of bubbles atop. A bit lifeless in the glass, but bears a nice palate-coating chocolate and bourbon character.. cakey hints.. easy-drinking for strength. Here's to 15 more years of Monty's 🍻

Cask @ Cromwell's Tap House. Pours a hazed amber, off-white head. Aroma is general amber malt, perhaps a gentle hop sweetness. Flavour profile brings a very mild but noticeable hop influence, giving a nod towards it's Red IPA aspirations but not quite getting there. It's a malt-led beer at heart, with a firm bitterness, but falls a little short of the mark.

Cask at Bird in Hand, Stafford. Pours a golden amber with a medium sized off-white head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma – just some hints of malts. In the mouth it is basically sweet, but with a slight underlying bitterness. Flavour has malts and honey with some grains and hints of corn, ginger and spices. After a while you realise it is quite watery though. There is a dry finish. It’s reasonable.

33cl bottle, courtesy of SarkyNorthener, pours with a nice deep dark chocolate colored body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up chocolate heading quickly to milk chocolate and then thin ribbons of dark roasted malts and spicy black licorice. The taste delivers a pleasing blend of dark chocolate, dark roasted malts and some softer milk chocolate. To midway it picks up a wafer thin layer of sweet dark fruity esters and a bit of spicy black licorice. This is smooth with the right amount of depth and richness. Solid offering.

500ml bottle from, I think, Appleyard's. Pours a deep russet brown, good off-white head. Aroma is centred around lightly caramelised amber malt. Flavour profile presents pleasant toffee shades alongside soft crystal malt and nutty brown bread. Would accompany Christmas dinner well I think.
