Gravity cask at the Townhouse Beer Festival, Ely. Very black with a purplish tan head. Smells of Malteasers, liquorice allsorts (a veritable candy store!) and strong espresso. The coffee comes to the fore in the taste, with notes of liquorice, peppermint, and black pudding. Sharp bitter aftertaste. Very nice.

Cask. Sheffield Tap. Pumpclip doesn’t mention ABC. Cloudy, dark yellow. Bubbly, messy, white head. Some gooseberry type hop. Syrup. Sweet malts. Taste is sweet, turning light bitter. Feels a bit boozy, and heady. Syrupy palate. Finishes with more sweetness. Feels unfinished. Not great.

Cask at the York Tap. Pours hazy gold with a thin white head. Aromas of sherbet and orange. Taste is more of the same, stressed yeast. Woody notes. Bitter finish.

Gravity dispense at EBF XX, EUSC, 02/04/15. Lightly hazed golden with a decent off white covering. Nose carries a good trace of coffee grinds, spice, straw, bitter orange, tangerine, earthy hop presence. Taste comprises more coffee notes, light grapefruit, bitter citrics, orange pith, light bread, melon. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light peppery hop bitterness. Solid stuff, holds together well in terms of blending the coffee into the IPA base.

Bottle from 3@3, Ely. Cloudy orange-Amber. Fair bit of quickly dissipating carbonation. Caramel, yeast, and a bit of candy sugar. Taste is bittersweet/sour, herby, and slightly doughy. Sourish aftertaste with a hint of chilli. Not quite right.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2014 - London. Pours cloudy gold with a creamy-frothy white head. Lots of ripe, rotting fruits in the aroma, some bread and berries. Medium to big sweet flavor, somewhat yeasty, with notes of grapes and doughy bread. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Somewhat warming on the finish with marmalade, ripe citrus, pale bread, berries, orange juice. Good one.

Bottle from 3at3, Ely. Cloudy dark yellow with heavy sediment. A great deal of lacing. Yeast, sour lemon, a bit of funk in the aroma. Sweet and sour taste, with a long sour finish. A bit spicy but I don’t get the ginger at all. Still a very good and far from a run-of-the-mill beer.
