33cl bottle from The Bottle Shop, Canterbury. Hazy orange gold with a thin white head. Aroma of citrus hops tangerine and lime. OK in mouth, a bit earthy. Some more orange and lime fruits on finish. Mild bitterness.

Nose is caramel, burnt toffee. Taste, is toffee, raspberry leaf tea, lots of bread, some herbs. Leads through to a very bitter finish. The beer is a bit thin. A nice beer without being exceptional, it feels like two beers combined, the red ale notes, and then the hoppy notes following. I didn’t feel they worked in harmony well enough yet. I enjoyed it though.

Keg at The Hanging Bat. Murky golden body with a medium off-white head. Light carbonation. Excellent lacing. Wonderful aroma of lemon, papaya, grapefruit, biscuit and yeast. Sharp grapefruit flavour with subtle peppery, salty and soapy notes. Pine resin in there too. Lingering bitterness. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. An interesting, fruity IPA.

Euston Tap. Murky dark brown beer, residual pale tan head. Palate is light with slightly crisp edge. Very mellow darkish malt with a touch of chocolate. Lots of minerals. Light malt cream. Crisp finish. A nice light porter but there isn’t a lot of complexity here.

Tap at the Cask, Pimlico - 26/02/13. Hazed golden amber with a thin off white head. Good lacing ensues. Nose is sharp and bitter apples, lemon rind, wood, funky, yeast, orange pith. Taste comprises soured apple mash, wood, citrus, hint of spice, touch of booze. Medium bodied with bite, light spritzy carbonation, dry and crisp in the finish. Good stuff - an assertive saison.

Keg at Craft Beer Co Islington. It pours deep ruby-brown with a small beige head. The nose is soft roast, toast, coffee, dark fruit, candyfloss and chocolate. The taste is soft roast, very fruity, berry, light jamminess, chocolate, caramel, decent bitterness and earth with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and moderate-high carbonation. Good depth of flavour and pretty drinkable.

Tap at Craft Islington, 21/02/13. Hazed mid amber with a medium white head that retains for a time before dissipating edgeward. Nose is lemon, spice, farmy, horsey, orange, pineapple. Taste comprises orange pith, lemon, grass, spice, earthy. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, dry finish. A decent enough saison!

cask at the bat ...murky dark amber ... thin tan head .. soft funk fruit nose ... soft mellow body ... soft floral hop ... none of that brett funk i dont like but the mellow boddy and creamy smoothnes of the de struise AA brett version .. intersting and very drinkable
