Description
We are always busy creating taste sensations, always looking for improvements or new flavours and optimizing our beers. Our beer is pronounced, complex, balanced, often full and soft in texture. We don’t brew beer for everyone, we only brew beer for people who love pronounced flavours. We do this by constantly tinkering with our recipes in search of perfection, we want to brew beer that is considered legendary. One has to tell stories about how great the beer of the Moersleutel is. Anyone who drinks our beer must be spoiled for life and must want nothing more.

Imperial stout from this northern Dutch brewery, 375 ml bottle shared at RBBWG. Pale greyish beige, thick and frothy, very creamy, closed, dense head over a jet black beer. Aroma of wet leather, walnuts, bitter chocolate, teriyaki, charred wood, cigar ashes, whisky, bayleaf soaked in a beef stew, varnish, black olive, gravy, dried dates. Sweet and umami onset, soy sauce flavors mixed with hints of fig, raisin and dried banana, sourish roasted barley underneath, oily mouthfeel but not as viscous and thick as I expect from any beer labelled ’imperial’ stout; very nutty malt core, toasted and eventually ashy and very roasted bitter, bitter black coffee, dry, oily finish with peppery hops, warming rum-like alcohol and some still lingering umami. Lots of umami, lots of roasted bitterness, interesting and enjoyable but lacking a bit in body and ’viscosity’ for the style.

Thank you Alengrin! 375 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBWG VI (2017). BBF 11/18. Batch #16. Black, little tanned head. Nose is bitter chocolate, cheap coffee, low umami, herbal. Taste is okay chocolate, bit thin, very basic roast, chocolate, herbal, roast, umami, roots. Body is a bit thin. Bit thin, very basic bitterness, lacking some body, sweetness & complexity. Below average for the style, okay beer. Certainly expected more given the hype that this brewery is getting.

No head, slick, dead-looking brown-black beer. Sweetish-roasted, rusty metallic nose, bit meaty and even mineral. Sweet-roasted, again metallic-rusty touches. Mineral; warming up, chocolate. Very oily-slick (apt), viscous. Rather low carbonation, alcoholheat. Rich, good stout. Alcohol is there but does not quite give the "real Imperial" feel.

Bottle at home. Opens with a loud noise. Black with enormous amount of brown fizzy foam. Lots of coffee, toffee, lots of blackberries, blueberries, plums. Nice fresher fruit notes too with a bit of red berries and orange. Some toffee and light bready malts. Slight ashy touch in the finish. It’s not that sweet for a 10% beer, with matching bitterness and a light fruity tartness. Over medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Great beer, only minor downside is the very enthusiastic carbonation.

Nasmaak is erg geroosterd, koffie, bitterig.

Batch 14. So much coffee, almost ridiculous. Extremely powerful taste, but great if you like chewing raw coffee trees.
