clear dark amber, very large smooth light brown head. roasted aroma, perhaps very slightly smoked. malty. flavor is malty, hoppy, roasted malty. faint caramel, something that resembles coffee. good porter, not very smoked, but a little smoke is here.

pitch black, smooth brown head. sweet roasted malty aroma. notes of flowery hops. flavor is roasted malty, wood, licorice, caramel, pretty dark, roasted and malty aroma, a bit sweet, but the alc. and the roasted stuff manages to balance well. great flavor. palate is very thick and works real well with this beer.

Drunk to celebrate another century this time the 204th - a beer from my fiancee’s home country. Bottled. A red beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has strong notes of hops, lending it notes of lemon and elderflowers, combined with notes of caramel, and alcohol. The flavor is caramel, malt, hops, alcohol, and lemon, leading to a quite bitter finish.

500 ml bottle from Hi Time. Pours dark brown with a creamy/bubbly beige/tan head. Aroma is roast malt and citrus/grapefruit. Med body. Flavor is citrus/grapfruit with a roast malt backbone. It’s reasonably hoppy. More than reasonably for a brown. This is a near neighbor to a black IPA. Finishes nicely bitter. Every sip is a joy.
