Cask @ Cafe Beermoth, Manchester. Golden with a thick creamy-frothy head. Has a recognisably sour nose, and although it is sour in taste, this is light and manageable, although a tad thin in the palate.

Bottle from Beermoth, Manchester. Extremely dark with next to no head and a slight carbonation. Has a heavy dark malt aroma with liquorice, that suggests it should be a lot stronger tasting than it is. There’s a small sourness in its taste.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at Beermoth, Manchester. Pours clear, orange-gold with a small, foamy white head. Somewhat bland on the nose, with notes of dried pine, dry pale bread, hay. Light sweet flavour with prominent flinty minerals, chlorophenols, pale bread, bitter citrus rind. Light bodied with very fine carbonation; it’s lacking a bit in the condition department. Dry and flinty on the finish, with grassy and rindy bitterness and subtle bready sugars. Quite pedestrian.

Bottle in the hotel in Manchester - picked up at Beermoth. Pours clear gold with a fine, frothy white head. The nose has minimal funk, just some musty grass, citrus rind, dry wood. Light sweet flavour with prominent bitter orange rind, grass, dried out wheat, husky grains, lemon peel, hay. Light bodied with average carbonation and massaging texture. Quite dry on the finish, with hints of alcohol, musty straw, more grassy and rindy bitterness, flinty minerality. Kind of interesting, but not something I would be rushing to drink more of.

Manchester Beer & Cider Festival 2016. Black with an off-white head. Not overly milky, but it does have a light and fairly smooth texture, with slightly gritty roasted malts.
