Description
Baarle's beer brewed in the traditional way. The brewery was founded in 2007 by Monique and Ronald Mengerink. Behind their house in the Pastoor de Katerstraat they built a brewing installation with six 1000 liter lager tanks. Due to the growing success the brewing kettles moved to Gierlestraat in 2014. In January 2017, the brewery moved again to a new location in the Oordeelsestraat. With their third expansion in ten years Ronald and Monique are able to increase the capacity of the brewery to 50 hectoliters per brew and 100 hectoliters per day.

At the brewery I tasted their Embrasse. A great joy since it came out only short time ago. Dark brown with a reddish glow. Beautiful cream foam that leaves a good lace. It has great aroma, balanced flavour, delicious malts, great aftertaste. Chocolate, coffee, the right sweets and some slight smoke. Very impressive. It instantly became one of my favourites.

Small, short-lived yellow head over orange-shot brown beer. Smokey nose, cigarette ashes, rosewater, malts. Beautiful smokey-malty and resiny flavours. Pretty sweet but nowhere cloying. Superb balance! Finish yields juniper, cypress and resin. Slick, viscous, warming and 100% balanced. WOW! Respect. This is a truly impressive brew from our Dutch-Belgian newcomer.

Bottle, New Oxford, Salford. Nice, as always, to see something other than the usual belgian suspects lurking in a pub fridge. Hazy darkish orange colour. Grassy, very fresh aroma. Crisp, with an interesting herbiness leading to a bitter finish. Slight sourness in the flavour which seemed enticingly complex with all sorts going on from barnyard to citrus. Would like some more of this.

Bottle, 5.5%. Gusher, almost impossible to open without spraying it all over. Qute citric aroma, at first like lambik, but later more malty. Cloudy dark orange colour, very sparkling. Good tight head, continually fed but the bubbles coming from the bottom of my glass. Distinct bitterness in the flavour, some citric notes, again like lambik. The citric notes are very fruity. Hint of malt and paper to balance. Good with cheese. Strange and annoying, but not bad.

Draft at Kerstbierfestival 2007. An unclear golden beer with a rim of orangey head. The aroma is sweet with notes of smoke and dusty hops. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of fruit - primarily oranges, but also light notes of smoke.

Bottle, Belgian Belly, Chorlton. Slightly cloudy reddy brown with a dissipating off white head. Aroma was damp hay, sour fruit, wood. Flavour was somewhat herby, with a hint of spice and smokiness. Something a bit different here. Interesting and worth chhhhecking out.
